Received the M42 adaptor

Does anybody tried to use AF-confirm chip on M42 adapter on SD14? Seems that Canon chip must work, because some people use Canon lenses on Sigma with just changing mount on lens. Electronic part seems the same.

Hello ag70,
first of all a warm welcome to the forum.
The electronic should work with the Sigma body,
but the harder part is mechanicly as the Sigma bayonett is smaller than Canon.
The radius doesn´t match, and therefore the contacts are not aligned.

Uwe

Thank you for answer. I just want to try to put the AF-confirm chip for Canon on M42-SA adapter to get focus confirmation with sound and focus point lighting also. There are lots of those chips on eBay.

Hi ag70,
if you manage to get the chip and associated contacts in the right position
it should work.
Please let us know of any progress.
Good luck
Uwe

Hi ag70,

NOT necessary! Focus indication perfectly works with all SD cameras without any chipping. With SD 9/10 the "beep" works too, with all manual M42-lenses, the SD14 indicates focus with the green round spot (at the viewfinder's bottom) ... the beep does not work!

So no problems should come up. Automatic exposure works with the cameras on Auto Aperture (dial on A-position!)

You just need to adjust their light meters.

SD9 (F:5.6)
SD10 (F:2.8)
SD14 (F:1.0)

That means, you make the cameras "believe" these apertures. Then you can adjust your "true" F-stops at the old lenses ... the cameras will expose automatically to the right shutter speeds.

See you with nice pictures

Only one catch. If you remove the battery/reinsert it with a non-Sigma lens on, you loose the AF confirmation.
The trick to get it back is to remove battery/reinsert it with a Sigma lens on. Then you can swap lenses freely, and AF confirmation works.

Thanks a lot for this additional information! I never experienced this problem but of course I believe you!:)

Wow!... I did that!. Past Sunday I was walking the SIGMA SD9 wearing the Tamron 860 OEM and I run out of battery, so I swithched off the camera and replaced the batteries by a fresh set... I mean the standard 4xAA set (not the CR123 vertical ones).
I'll have to put the 18-50 back and replace again the battery...
Thanks for the clue!.

Kind regards,
Jes.
