Restored GM locomotive on trial

This is a former New South Wales Government Railways 421 class locomotive, numbered 42105, a GM EMD model AJ16C built in 1966.

It's now privately owned and has been recently restored to working order and sports a unique livery. This photo was taken last week when it was on a trial run from Sydney to the southern suburbs and back. It was accompanied by locomotive 42101 (in original NSWGR livery) and hauled a rake of heritage passenger carriages. The locos have just cut off from the train and are about run around before returning to the city.

Nice! When I was a little kid, in the summer time (mid-1960's) when there was no school in session, you'd ride your bicycles around town all day, play ball with your friends, eat lunch at their house (or they'd eat at yours) and of course there would be several side trips to the railroad tracks when you'd hear a horn blowing in the distance. Here comes a train. A group of kids would scramble their bikes, head over to the tracks... and wait with anticipation. Back then, this is what we'd expect to see... a "classic" locomotive (F-unit).

Nice composition, too... with the people on the platform.
Thanks John. It was good to see a number of people out taking photos of the old loco that day.
