Ricoh Imaging just officially announced the PENTAX K-3 Mark III Monochrome camera, exclusively designed to capture black-and-white images.
This is the only monochrome-specific digital SLR camera currently on the market (Leica has compact and rangefinder Monochrom cameras).
The PENTAX K-3 Mark III Monochrome camera body will be available late April at www.us.ricoh-imaging.com as well as at Ricoh Imaging-authorized retail outlets for the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2,199.95.

IMO.... ) Next up will be the GRIII Monochrome because it is designed mostly for street photography and the BW is most in demand in this segment, followed by the K-1 Mark III and K-1 Mark III Monochrome.
Right now the DSLR camera segment is no more than 5% of everything and to release a camera that will take a maximum of 0.1% of that segment at too high a price is so in line with Pentax's weird current strategy. It's a kind of trying to be unique by producing niche products that no one else has and that hardly anyone else wants.

Maybe, instead they should be concentrating on products that can be used by all Pentaxians (irrespective of what camera body they favour)... ie, Lenses... :z04-head-wall:

New slogan for Pentax "The samurai has no goal, only a way" )
In all honesty, I don't understand what they want at all or what they're thinking...

This could sell better than we think across all brand lovers.
There are still those out there that prefer B&W, I believe this will be excellent IQ wise.
There would not have been a lot of R&D required to produce this camera.

Why does a monochrome camera have a choice of two color spaces or an 'invert color' digital filter?

Looks like the Specifications have almost just been copied (except formatting) direct from the normal K3iii.
I suppose they did at least replace 'primary color' with 'monochrome' in the sensor section & removed the White balance section.

It looks really stunning so they did a great job with that media marketing side of things. The nikon Z7ii for example looks odd with that make believe pentaprism and the photos of it are also odd looking. It helps when it looks great to begin with. I may get this monachrome delight eventually when prices are slightly lower BUT it is specialist. The prices may never come down for a very long time.
