RX Viewing screens

Hi
I've been trying out a RX with 60mm S planar and am getting problems with the split image going dark. Has any one used a different screen with macro lenses and long focal lengths? which screen and does it affect the digital focus indicator?
Thanks
Fraser Sims

Since I've got Contax Cameras I'm using the "sectioned matte"-screen, which is also available for the RX (FW-4).
I tried this one with auto bellows with great success.
But it's only a matte screen with no additional split image or microprisms.
It's offered regularly for the RX, so focus indicator shouldn't be affected.

Hi Fraser,
I have used the RX with the 60c Makro-Planar but use the FW-3 Screen. This is aplain Matte screen with the centre circle but no micro prism or split image to go dark. This is also very good with the 500mm Mirotar f 8 mirror lens, I hired one last year for use on Holiday and it worked very well.

Hi Matthias and Bob
Thanks for your help (sorry for the delay)
I got the FW 4 and it works great! I love the uncluttered view and the lines to help with the horizons

Hi, are those Screens/Mattscheiben interchangeable accross all bodies (say from 159mm to AX body) or is just the part number (e.g. FW-4 the same)

As long as the number is the same it's the same part and can be used on these cameras.

Beattie Intenscreen seems to be not a very good choice. I just recently asked a similar Question and it seems the best choice is a company called "Brightscreen".

However you need to be carefull when using this screens. Although some companies claim a recalibration of your metering is not necessary most users say it is...

And the brighter VF does not make focussing easier (it has to do with contrast vs brightness) according to quite some users.

All in all it doesn't seem to be a good investment.

For details search Alexanders Contax-List Archives from December 2002, Subject Brightscreen.

Hello Rainer,

the screens are the same for some cameras. The FW-sreeens will fit ST, AX and RX. The FU-sreens are made for Aria, 167MT and S2/S2b. RTS III has it's special screens: FV-type. Also RTS II (FS-screens) and 159MM (FT-screens).
The numbers of the screens descripe the type of screen. But the numbers aren't the same for all those cameras.
As you see: a 159MM sreeen won't fit the RX.
Theres a contax system brochure in the download-section of contaxinfo.com. You'll find all screens available in it.
