Together with a friend we visited our favourite wetlands again. We had been keeping an eye on a pair of great crested grebes breeding there and when we came this time the chicks had hatched. There were four of them and we were lucky enough to be able to observe their feeding. Apart from the grebes there were numerous greylag geese, breeding swans, cormorants and gadwalls.

It is amazing that one so small can manage this fish (in fact one chick couldn't manage and spit it out; it was then offered to another chick who made short shrift of it)
