Zeiss 25mm f2.8 Distagon discontinued

Interesting posts here that actually fit to what my experiences with >the 25/2,8 are. I found one in very good condition for a reasonable >price but I was dissapointed to have vignetting wide open.-

there is also vignetting with 35/1.4 wide open and 2.0. but compaired to olympus 35 and 24mm it is a dream-lens. only the 35/2.8 pc has superior quality, even at 2.8 full open.

25/2.8 vignetting.

Before buying the lens, I read so many reviews stating that this lens is so so...
After buying the lens and developing my first film through it. I was amazed.
The lens stands up for the Cral Zeiss name. No vignetting what so ever, distortion well controlled and very sharp. The only thing i don't like about the lens, is the fact that is focal length is 25.9mm which makes it very close to my 28mm.
So one of these lenses has to go

I have both, 25 and 28 and I would not agree here that the 25 "is basicly a more expensive version of the 28". I also read some reviews that stated only an "average" quality (Sharpness and so on) but I cannot agree either. If 25 is the widest, eg no 21 or 18, I would sell the 28. Because I love my 18, I need my 25.

The 25mm has been discontinued for some years, but this is not uncommon for Zeiss as many lenses have come and gone thru the years and should not be considered an indicator of demise. Never noticed vignetting from my 1980 version but will take a critical peek. Here's a better one tho.. my 25mm always underexposed by a stop or two (all other lenses work fine), sent the lens to contax in about 1981-2 and it came back no better though with glue oozed out under the focus knurled rubber, send the lens back again last year (when I had my RTS reconditioned) and they actually fixed something this time, including remelting the rubber knurl to remove the glue squeezin's.
