Zeiss Distagon 25mm vs Zeiss 28mm

I've never seen this effect with zoom lenses. That's why I'm never using them.It has nothing to do with the so called "bokeh". Bokeh, indeed.

The term 3-D is heard most often in Leica circles, where transcendental qualities of the glass must be discovered -- otherwise all that money is wasted! Obviously, it has nothing to do with stereo-photography. Instead, it's a matter of rendering edges and detail with a maximum of contrast -- as if the item in focus is about to fall out of the print, and into your lap. So, 3-D is a poetic way of saying "good MTF, low chromatic aberration".

3-D seems to play against good bokeh: you may have either one, but not both at the same time. I'm no optical designer, so perhaps this rule is false. Lately, I prefer shooting with less DOF, so good bokeh is more important than 3-D sharpness. Leica proceeds with an Aspheric overhaul of their M primes, and some users are sufficiently upset that they're reverting to the old glass. Perhaps it is good for us that Contax is keeping C/Y designs fashionably retro.

By the way, please continue discussing the merits of the D25 and 28/2.8 because I will buy one this week (travel lens for my new Aria). Okay, I confess to being interested in the Yashica 24ML and 28ML also... feel free to pelt me with rotten fruit!

i am only upset when i see websites telling us its 3D.... STREULICHT is flare-lens-flare. instead of stray light. i call this reflexions.
 
bones's of the face, the microstructures... You can only see this effect if you devellop and print your own black and white or color papers, or do tranparancies. You see this "3D" effect at Leica, Contax and others brands...if you get their professional line of lenses....

these lenses are superior to sigma yashica or whatsoever. but do not tell us that only these lenses are capable of this 3d-effect. then all 24/25mm lenses should look the same. they are only crisp sharp. anyhow i could tell a customer who showed me his 10x15cm-postcard-prints that they were made by a leica.

If that is the case, then the D28 should have better 3D capabilities than t= he the D25, since the D28 has better MTF. This assumes of course, that phot= odo uses the same procedure for all lenses when establishing the MTF curves= .=20

There are objective (scientific & measurable) and subjective (perception, h= andling, and joy of use and ownership) aspects of photographic lenses. Fact= and opinion.

For many years I have taken at least 50% of my pictures with 25mm or shorte= r, but recently I have come to like the longer 28mm lenses also. In my opin= ion wide angle lenses are much more useable. But 50mm is also very usable. = I have not used my lenses with a focal length of more than 85/90 for years,= and I rarely use the 85.

I sold my D18, D25 and D28 and have been using Contax G (Biogons), Leica or= Voigtlander for the short lenses. In my opinion the biogons are great.

I don't think that bokeh and high MTF (or 3D) exclude one another. I think = bokeh has to do with how 'nice' the out of focus portions appear to the vie= wer.

I've the same effect on my 20mm af Nikon. So if you see this effect it's always with a good lens...But you see the effect always on Leica and Contax and sometimes on Nikon and the other
