3570 mm f 4 any experiences

i just bought the 35-70 F4 as I am also about to go to Europe for a holiday. It will save me from taking my 28mm and 60mm macro and should be an ideal travelling lens. This is a great thread for me as I'm only putting my first film through on this new lens.

I hope my 19mm, the 35-70 and my 80-200 F4 should be perfect for all occassions.

Dear David,

Take a table tripod or monopod particularly for the 1:4/80-200. A lot of my shots at 200mm even with 1/500 shutter speed are not sharp on large projection.

If you intend to take action or interior shots, I cannot recommend the Minilux more highly. Mine is black, and with tape over the name I was able to take my best shots. After a C&ari or two I thought I was HCB !

Have fun.

Justin

Thanks Justin,

Tape over the name??

I thought with the F4's (especially the 80-200, I agree!!) that i would use faster 400 film. i am hoping to carry as little as possible.

what do you think?

David (sorry if I'm getting off the 35-70 topic)

David,

I do not like the name Leica so obvious on the front of cameras. They are an expensive camera and feel it invites theft if nothing else. Black electrician's tape blends cut to size blends nicely with the black chrome on the R7 and Minilux.

The problems with 400 film is in direct sunlight. All the 400 trany films in my opinion irrespective of brand are low contrast.

Shoot some different films before you leave home.

Also with airline security these days I used the lead lined film bags from Hama. A lot of people are buying film when they arrive and having it processed before climbing back on the plane.

>The last time I spent taking photographs in an English summer, I needed a >faster lens than f4, (I was using my Angenieux 70-210 zoom) or a faster >film than ASA 100. Maybe parts of Europe (Italy, Greece??) are different. >I've been experimenting with the Fujifilm Superia X-tra 800 for low light; >it's quite impressive. (but of course not everyone likes print film as I >do) There's an image on my web site shot with a Super-Takumar 85mm f1.9 >which is my fastest short telephoto lens.

I don't use transparencies either and had been planning on using Fuji NPH 400 to get the speed for my 1:4 35-70 - but you've all got me thinking.

How do i reach you web site Francis?

David

Sorry David,

Thought you used slides, in which case NPH is a terrifice film and will solve the speed problem.

Nevertheless take a table-tripod. I was using one with 400 ISO fim and f/2,4 inside baroque churches in Austria.

Have a great trip.

> The main problem of the Vario 35-70/4, is the almost impossibility to use a Polarizer with it.
