These were taken Friday with Pentax K1 and 85mm FA* F1.4.
The lens and camera is very heavy for my one handed shots but after a few months almost daily of thousands of hand holding either a canon 5D ii with 135mm F2 or mostly the Nikon D700 with 105mm F1.4 my hand has been "trained" as it were to manage this Pentax combination. I noticed very little strain one handed but it likely also helped that many shots were with two hands so gave my hand an appropriate rest bite. Near the end of the night two lovely ladies were photographed for around 15 minutes with one hand and I did not even notice any issue and had not even given it a second thought until writing this post. The K1 AF with this lens at night is very capable in my opinion and differs little to my Nikon D700 with Nikon 105mm F1.4. Certainly there is nothing to worry about. It got shots with AF very accurately close enough for my liking. With the K1 I was able to explore much slower shutter speeds easily over and above what I shoot with both my Canon 5D ii and Nikon D700. I am just telling you some real life gear talk based on actual facts and not theory. I love all my cameras equally actually because I like to work with limitations actually. I am fond of each one for different reasons. The Pentax 85mm is actually too sharp looking on some shots that have hair. I soften them in post processing !! Hair looks like wire in contrast night lights on some shots that were taken of the two kind ladies.

Here are 5 from Friday. ( The two ladies not posted because I would like permission first. )

Just curious as to why you do your photography “one handed”?

Just curious as to why you do your photography “one handed”?

One handed is really cool way to shoot streets for a start off. I can shoot my K1 one handed at 30th or something one handed with IBS.

BUT WELL Well . . . I actually do not wish to give the secret recipe away so clearly. You need to understand that many shots have a kind of special effect applied. It is NOT done in post processing. It is done by various " instruments " shall we say for now.

I hold them up in front of the lens. One hand holds the camera whilst the other hand makes the magical sparkles . It does often ruin shots too but I like the results so much that do work that I take that chance. There are other methods I use too that do not require such instruments that achieve similar effects. Again I do not want to elaborate too much.
I made a fantastic discovery last week that I had not ever seen before and some shots are using this discovery but I am not going to tell you my discovery. It is a eureka moment. I was blown away by this discovery. I am NOT going to even hint at what it was that I discovered. Sorry PENTUP if you think I play mind games. Simply I want to keep my palette of tools secret from other photographers ..... thank you very much.

The photos today are these with the canon 5D ii. As said on another thread. A classy classic. 21 megapixels in 2008.
