Buying an RTS III in 2003 A Few Concerns

Thanks again for your responses everyone. In the end, I ordered an RX with a 28 f2.8, 50 f1.4 and 85 f1.4 from KEH. My package should arrive on Tuesday... :) Also, KEH is allowing exchanges until January 25 for Christmas "presents" (on top of their regular 14 day full refund or exchange period) - so I'm covered if the RX doesn't meet my needs.

Happy Holidays,

Kim

To David Moore, the advantage given by the vacuum back of the RTSIII would show in pictures taken at wide aperture, such as with 85/1.4 focussed at infinity, on something like the stars at night. In those sort of conditions I have sometimes experienced difficulties in other cameras where the film has slightly lifted from the backplate in the centre, throwing the image slightly out of focus there. At smaller apertures this error would not show up. Mark

Stars at night?? Possibly, but remember when using "B" on the shutter dial and a regular cable release, the vacuum back is switched off to conserve battery power!

Just a point of information folks -- I just read a few minutes ago that the RTS 111 is no longer in production. Someone received an email from one of the two most reputable camera stores in New York City that they will no longer carry the RTS 111 due to the fact that production has been terminated. I am sure that there will be a number of them still available used.
