Contax ND

A note to all ND users. Today I posted a few snapshots taken in fairly contrasty conditions.
It demonstrates the wonderful dynamic range of the ND.

However, some of the shots were accomplished using a few 3rd party designed PhotoShop actions I've found VERY valuable for digital cameras, and even more important for the ND. So. I thought it important to share them with you.

One is called " Shadow Recovery". It's an action that lifts the shadowed areas without effecting the other tonal areas. It really works with the NDs excellent dynamic range. By exposing for the highlights and letting the blacks go, you get rich color and no blown whites. When processing, you run the action before increasing color saturation and the shadow areas open back up.

Another one is called "Chroma Noise Reducer" which also is very valuable when used with the ND files.

There are more, but this is enough for now.
They are available a www.fredmiranda.com
for small $. They are then e-mailed to you along with easy instructions how to load them into your PhotoShop folder.

Changing font size:

In Outlook 2002, in the main window use the menu "View/Current View/Customize Current View ..." to open the View Summary dialog. Click "Other Settings". There you can change heading and text (row) font size.

In the Outlook message window, use the menu entry "View/Fonts/WhateverSize" (small, medium, large, etc.)

In Internet Explorer, use the menu entry "View/Text Size/WhateverSize" (small, medium, large, etc.).

And for the more rational folks who use Eudora, there is a "font-size" icon.

(Eudora, by the way, is immune to the worms and viruses which use the outlook contact list to propagate themselves)

Sorry guys,

on some keyboards you have a key called "string" (it written on it) and on some keyboards it is called "ctrl".

If you have the miscrosoft mouse which has a wheel in the middle (normally to scroll up and down on the internetpages) you can use it as described above without using any menu. This works for Outlook 2002, Internet Explorer (as long as the webpage is programmed for that) and maybe also for some others.

I do not know about Netscape or others. Over 89% of the contaxinfo.com users are usein g IE 5 or higher. Netscape is below 5%.

Don,

in your profile, directly under topics for the e-mail notifications, there are 2 additional options. One to receive your own comments and one to receive all answers to your own comments.

If the latter one is not unchecked, you will get e-mails from this ND-thread because you posted also in the nd-thread.

I think that works for any program using Windows screen handling conventions.

What kind of computer are you running which has that nomenclature?

The ctrl key was originally added to terminal keyboards and actually serves as a second function key, sort of like a shift key. The Alt key was another such addition. I never saw the word "string" on any key and can only assume it is an Apple characteristic. I saw an Apple computer once but don't recall ever touching it.

In some coding systems ctrl-m and ctrl-j are used to shift to a lower set of ASCII symbols, in these cases 13 10 or Carriage Return/Line Feed. In the case of DOS and Windows they are entered for you every time you press enter or return, however the keyboard is labeled. In Unix, only a Line Feed (New Line) is used to separate lines of text and the carriage return is implied.

And yes, I will uncheck the item to receive answers to my comments so I won't see the answers to this post.

Looks like once you post, if you don't uncheck that item you are locked in forever.

Thanks,

Don Williams

If a review on one of those web sites that review digital cameras is anything to go by, the TVS-Digital's images don't seem to hold up all that well when compared to something like the Canon S50, Zeiss glass notwithstanding.

Hi Guys,

we opened a new thread for software and working chain issues for the Contax ND only.

http://www.contaxinfo.com/discus/board-auth.cgi?lm=1052644071&file=/656/96448.html

we put it in the digital imaging section and not in the Contax digital section, since many users are looking there to find help for their processing questions.

It would burst the original ND-thread to cover to many issues regarding the ND in one thread. I will copy Marcs comments regarding the add-on software for the ND there too.

So feel free to post there your recomendation for add-on software and how to use this software. Or other tricks to improve the usability of the Contax ND. Please use for every software a new thread, so that it is easier afterwards to add handling questions regarding that software.

P.S.: I use a Sony Vaio laptop and these have string insttead of ctrl on the key on the lower left hand corner. Maybe it is a european thing..

I have to delete these IT-discussion later on out of this thread I guess

A last note to Don:

"And yes, I will uncheck the item to receive answers to my comments so I won't see the answers to this post.

Looks like once you post, if you don't uncheck that item you are locked in forever."

Yes this is true. The problem is that computers are in general stupid machines and they do not know which posting within one thread is only for your questions and which one for others.

The computer/software is thinking that all postings in this thread after your posting is related to your original one, since it is always within the same thread
