Contax RX problem

echbeck16, Very enlightening information from you. I thought this mirror problem had only occurred with the later Contax models, but from what you mention it also goes back to the earlier models, which you refer to, and which you own. It has never been 'disclosed' over the years. As regards your repair, it is beyond my capability. I have never attempted any repair to any of my cameras, and although your instructions are quite clear as to how to mend the problem, I would not trust myself. However, I will download your remedy for future use. If the problem occurred with mine I could always show your remedy to any camera repairer. Now that Contax/Kyocera no longer repair their models, I would have to rely on an independent.

I had the same Problem with my old RX (build 1997). Did not have the Problem with my other Cameras (Yashica FX-3, Aria, ST, AX, MA). I used my RX mostly in Afrika, like the MA in earlier years. But that Problem did not show up with my old MA. My be its the heat, that melts the glue?

I had this mirror slip problem happen to my RTS II some time ago. I sent it in for a CLA to Kyocera (before their demise with Contax) and that fixed it for a short time. The problem came back, but I then realized the design issue upon inspection (took matters into my own hands). I noticed that on my other SLR bodies (of other brands) that they had a 45 degree block on the mirror carriage along with a spring clip retainer (no chance to slip). But all the Contax bodies I've looked at didn't have this great design feature. So, I decided to reseat the mirror back onto the original (CLA supplied) mirror glue disk and applied a bead of silicon (fish tank repair) sealant along the edge of the mirror contacting both the mirror and the mirror holder. The problem hasn't surfaced again since 2003/2004 (forgot which year I sent it in for the CLA).
