DJbs EOS 1Ds Mk II Review

I just uploaded another 9 images at 2048 pxls on the long side, between around 500KB to 900KB, close to the 1MB limit. It's nice the gallery has the automatic 2-size viewing for those with slower access. These are for the most part busy boring shots to give some idea of the camera's capabilities, but they can't compare to the average 95MB TIFF files Photoshop is generating

Happy New Year everyone!

OK, I posted a couple of landscapes from China in the gallery in the same format as above. I have started saving as PSD to preserve adjustment layers, but that gives me 190MB or so master files - ouch! Still, that would be only for selected images. The rest I'll do with 1024 JPEGS that only have raw developer adjustments, for selection and non-critical viewing, kind of like giant thumbnails. So if out of 900 or so images I select say 150, that's around 30 gigs for China, assuming all selected need adjustments post raw development, which should not always be the case ...

DJ, are you saving as LZW loss-less compressed Tiffs?

Are you shooting RAW-LG J-Peg? If you do that you can set the browser to show all J-pegs and all RAW as separate groups, then only resort to RAW when necessary.

Anyone currently using Dr. Browns Image Processor script plug-in for PSCS? I went through the tutorial yesterday, and was wowed by the ease of batch processing RAW, Tiffs, J-Pegs or all at once ... without writing an action !!!!

Well, I had real long posting going and I fat-fingered my keyboard and closed the browser accidentally - 15 minutes of my life lost

. I even tried finding some temp file that might have saved the preview ... oh, well. I'll just be brief now

I use ZIP compression which is on the average 20-30% better than LZW, though LZW on occasion is a bit smaller. A flat TIFF runs me around 90-95MB, a layered TIFF around 230MB and a layered PSD around 190MB. I generate 1024-sized JPEG proofs from my raws in a quick batch process which I like better than dual-saving on-camera (too much CF clutter). I don't mind, in fact like, scrutinizing each image selected from the proofs in the raw developer and tweak them. Those that require more processing I then use layers in PS for adjustment. I had actually elaborated my current workflow in the dissapeared preview, but I'll post it again later in the appropriate section.

And as I had stated and discarded earlier, the 1Ds II performed flawlessly and was a total blast. I'm now wondering what was I thinking when I lugged that second battery around - what a waste of energy (they're not light!). I could have shot the whole trip with one charge

I uploaded a whole bunch of images from Xi'an to the gallery. There's much room for improvement in my shooting, but I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I did taking them. One thing you will notice is the haze, smog and dust!
