DPR Forum

Welcome to the Friendly Aisles!
DPRF is a spin-off of dpreview. We are a photography forum with people from all over the world freely sharing their knowledge and love of photography. Everybody is welcome, from beginners to the experienced professional. From smartphone to Medium Format.

DPRF is a community for everybody, every brand and every sensor format. Digital and film.
Enjoy this modern, easy to use software. Look also at our Reviews & Gallery!

DPR is upgrading its site.

This is the same software which we are using here. This transformation is what I wanted to do, if they would have handed over DPreview to me instead of deleting it, as it was originally planned. I do not know why it took them over 2 years to make the switch.

Generally I am not in favour of flat view. Comments in the thread reflect it.

From this Discussion, there were 176 posts, which I thought 150 replies was the maximum for DPR. Something must have changed.

So there is no specific date or timeframe announced, when the switch will happen. My guess is within the next 3 months.

At the end it will look like our forum. With the same kind of galleries etc. pp., probably with different colours and template. I hope that they do not even copy that one from us. :z04-nic-0075:

But at least, all dpreview user will realize in the long run, that this will be the best software platform for the future. :daumenhoch:

But dpreview is missing one important point and a major reason, why many users moved to us or elsewhere:

The behaviour of some dpreview moderators and some users.

It is not enough to buy a new car, if the driver stays the same.

Dpreview claims to have an "expert", a community manager, since a few months. But what kind of expert is this person, if he still allows these moderators and that user behaviour? Why did he not fire them?

There is so much hate in many subforums, mobbing, unfair treatment of users by some moderators and dictator-like behaviour of some moderators, that a new software does not change anything.

No matter how much you polish your car. This will not change how you drive the car. This is why we are here.

Dpreview was one the biggest photo sites. Today, they do not do the same reviews anymore like years ago. They shrank to a gear & photo forum like many others out there. Like us.

There is nothing bad with that. But there is nothing what makes depreview unique like in the past.

After the switch to xenforo, the dpreview apple will not be different to other apples anymore (except the above mentioned behaviour & atmosphere, like worms in an apple)

People will have it even easier now to vote with their feet. Just pick which atmosphere you prefere to have in a forum. Just pick one of many on the internet.

Could be possible. I do not care. It is not worth the time to think what will happen at dpreview. We will find out sooner or later.

This is a free world. Everybody can pick the forum he likes the most. Or several ones. We will continue with our spin-off anyway. So why should this move of dpreview bother us?

I like threaded view on DPR vs flat view, something which I miss in DPRF

Threaded view has advantages, if you have a bad system for quotes. At dpreview, you can only quote the full text, not parts of it.

This is why threaded view makes sense. You can follow easier side conversations.

But if you have a smart quote system like we do, threaded view is less useful.

With our forum software, you simply quote the parts of the text you are referring to. Highlight the part with your mouse, right click and insert it as a quote. Even multiquote is possible.

Thanks to this, you can easily follow also side discussions within a flat view.

It shouldn't bother DPRF. It's possible, maybe get more Members to come here, but those who left the first time may already be here or in the other DPR offshoot sites. Smaug/Jeremy Zorn did make a return to DPR, I haven't seen him in DPRF lately.
