DPR Forum

Welcome to the Friendly Aisles!
DPRF is a spin-off of dpreview. We are a photography forum with people from all over the world freely sharing their knowledge and love of photography. Everybody is welcome, from beginners to the experienced professional. From smartphone to Medium Format.

DPRF is a community for everybody, every brand and every sensor format. Digital and film.
Enjoy this modern, easy to use software. Look also at our Reviews & Gallery!

DPR is upgrading its site.

I read the thread. It is funny how the admin of dpreview tries to "sell" bigger image files as the sake for everything. They know for sure, that it will be impossible longterm to keep file sizes that high.

Sooner or later they will have to reduce it down to our levels or raise prices to an insane level for higher userlevels.

Someone has to pay the bills. Amazon will not give the serversoace for free anymore.

But it would be embarrassing for them to acknowledge that right now.

They have earned tons of money in the past without investing it and now they end up with a copy of our community forum almost 3 years later....

Let's wait and see what else they will copy from us...

Currently DPR is a free site although subscription had been discussed but it's only an idea. I wonder how long more can it remain free.

I visit DPR on my phone and it's annoying with Pop overs and ads.

Dirk, did you consider reaching out to admin at DPR and offer this forum as the one that is linked when someone clicks the FORUMS header there? Maybe they will be happy to let you handle the nuts & bolts, as it works so well here. Any chance to open yourself to some kind of merger? You have done a great job here addressing users' requests for features they liked at DPR. I'm sure they would be impressed.

I agree that it is more courteous here, as it is not tolerated to be otherwise. It was one thing that made DPR so frustrating to moderate; there was not much support from the top.

Now that it is owned by GearPatrol, they seem to have some more interested management.

Since the new management left also the bad moderators there and did not link anything to us although they are fully aware of this platform since day one, I do not see why they should change that.

You can paint an old house with new colours, but it is still the old house. :z04-nic-0075:

They sandboxed me again and again at dpreview although I am a long time member with many postings. I am still sandboxed by the way.

This is a war of moderator "mako". He is fighting against me. It is his personal war. From day one - even when dpreview was announced to be deleted.

As you know, he is the worst moderator out there und misuses his moderator rights for personal battles and support friends with other platforms.

But even without Mako. At the end of the day, we are competition. What do they offer what you can not find here?

....Except the bad user behaviour and bad moderation of some of their moderators? ... :teufel-grinsend-schwanz:

I offered already at the time of Amazon's ownership to take over dpreview when they decided to delete dpreview. I offered all the help you can think of, as you know from your time as a dpreview moderator.

There is nothing more I can do, sorry...
