First specs of 300D

I got my Digital Rebel last Friday night and have already taken a couple thousand+ photos... In the first 24 hours of using it I was so impressed that I agreed to sell my last 2 digitals(CP5700 & Dimage7) for my husband to get me a 2nd D300 and lenses to have 2 set-ups going at once. The camera is easy to start using, unlike some others I have used & it takes good photos, sharp with color right on. I am happy to have it ...popjpeg{15225,D300 S&le}

I friend of mine want to buy the new digital rebel/300 camera - he usually borrows my optics - how will a 300 mm 4L, a 100 mm2,8 macro and a 20-35 mm 3,5.-5,4 perfom with this camera - has anyone tried these combinations - how bad is the standard zoom that is sold with the camera?
Regards

Ruben

the zoom that is sold with the kit is good, the 55mm to 210mm is great and well worth the money.
overall i like this camera. the pix are great.

I HAVE JUST GOT A (28MM TO 135MM USM IS) LENS FOR MINE AND THAT WELL WORTH THE MONEY, DUMPED THE 28MM TO 55MM THAT CAME WITH THE OUTFIT.

The Black version is available in Japan and is called KISS.

Think it will only be available in the japanese market.

Can someone explain the difference between the three types of lenses: 75-300/4-5.6 USM III; 75-300/4-5.6 USM IS and 75-300/4-5.6 III please. There is a big difference in price and I was wondering if the quality of photo is different or is it just the operation (motor??)

To Matthew:

According to Canon's http://www.usa.canon.com/html/eflenses/lineup/index.html there are no major differences in optics between 75-300/4-5.6 USM III and 75-300/4-5.6 III. Actually if you look at the MTF charts of these lenses you will notice these are quite identical. I had 75-300/4-5.6 III and I could use a couple of days a 75-300/4-5.6 USM III and did not notice any difference in optical quality. Of course, the USM motor is low noise, better in precision and aquires focus quicker. Since price difference between MM and USM is not very important I believe 75-300/4-5.6 USM III could be a better choice. I found optical quality ok for these lenses in their price class.

75-300/4-5.6 USM IS has a somehow different optical scheme since this lense incorporates also the IS mechanism. Therefore it is somewhat bigger, havier and more expensive. MTF charts show similar optical quality to the MM and USM variants, slightly worse for the IS version. Only you must know if you are prepared to pay extra money for IS. I have not had this lense in my hand but one should expect to shoot photos at f = 300 with T = 1/60 ... 1/90 s from hand. Would not be so bad.
