Thanks Team for your recent email. I'm responding as requested. My update is that I still shoot with a Leica Q, and also have been using a Ricoh GR II. I've been off the radar other than views, because of work load and recent major surgery. I'm keeping in touch though. Thanks guys.

Hi Ian,

thank you for your introduction!:z04_whip2_1:

This is interesting. If you "only" shoot with Leica Q and Ricoh GR II, you and no interchangable lenses, you are a kid of purist :)

Ming Thein would like that, he loved both cameras :z04_yes:

I also use a Ricoh GR and am really happy with it. No money for the Q though, so I am really curious how you compare both to each other in the Leica or Ricoh forum.

What is your history? From which of our forums did you join before 2008?

Hi Dirk
I can't remember when I joined, but it was definitely back in the "film only" days. In my youth I used all Nikon-only gear - an F3 and an FM2. Then I slowly migrated to using a Leica M system, Hasselblad 500cm with prime, and a Contax system - so those forums.

Eventually I needed to change my work and lifestyle, so I sold all the film equipment slowly (and a bit sadly too). And just worked with a Leica M9 and my lenses. This is what pushed me to explore working with just one lens. At this time I was focussing on landscape and street photography. Partly I was also trying to push the use of my iPhone and it's camera dynamics - sometimes you just use the camera you have with you. So I pushed myself to only use the Leica M9 with a 35mm or 28mm lens. This was such an education and a challenge for me, but one I thoroughly enjoyed, and can recommend - it made me 'think' more carefully, above anything else.

Finally when the Leica Q came out, I was so wowed by some of the users and their reviews that I downgraded (kind of) to the Q. More recently, wanting to play with the simplicity of a great camera but small enough to pop into a pocket I invested in a well priced secondhand GR. However I'm still getting used to all the settings on this little camera. The upside is it is always with me in my bag, something I still can't bring myself to do with the Q (for fear of losing it). However the ease and simplicity of the Q is simply amazing, and many a time I've gone to the Q for an idea. So that's my story to date.

Hi Ian,

thanks for that feedback. Ming Thein was also a big fan of the Leica Q. He switched from Ricoh GR V to Leica Q. I never tried a Leica Q. I feared that I might like too much...

I have the Ricoh GR V Mk I since its inception. I love that camera. Especially that you can hold it and at the same time change all settings with only one hand. The lens is really really good. So this is my Leica Q for the poor man :)

Dirk, thanks for your encouragement. Whilst we've been posting on this thread this afternoon, it has rained heavily with a sudden burst of sun to follow. I popped out for a quick snap with my Ricoh GR, where should I post an image. I'm still a bit unsure how this site works.

Basically wherever you want to :)

But maybe we can open a thread in the Pentax/Risoh forum called "Fun with the Ricoh GR"?

Yes that would be great...I'm out now for a while, so won't be able to post until late or even tomorrow now...

No problem. We will be here also at the end of the week :daumenhoch_smilie:

Delay time is cheap here in this community. It costs you only a Leica Q... where do I have my shipping-address...? :z04_smilie_geschenk
