I own both a 10D and 20D, both of which were bought used but appear to be in very good shape. My question is...........is it possible to get a true number of how many actuations the camera has been thru? i thought that the number showing on the compact flash card was it but realized if you changed to renumber, then that number changes also

any info would be appreciated........

Read your instruction manual it will tell you where in the menu to find the total shutter actuations. Even my little G3 has this feature. if you don't have an instruction manual how on earth have you figured out how to use everything your cameras offer. Go to Canon USA and download a copy.

Now that I find an interesting question; and a 'useful' answer although a little on the terse side.
But how about the 5D; I own one of them and have read the manual several times. But I cannot find the equivalent feature on it. Does it exist on the 5D??
Mark.........i have read through the manual pretty closely and dont see any reference to this function. Maybe someone else who has a 20d can help me find out this information.
Thanks Thienanhpham, a very useful piece of information. I downloaded from the link and retrieved the information but I'm not sure which string of num bers I should be looking at. I have copied what I think is the most likely string set. Could someone confirm which string I should be looking at. I ha ve a 10D.Thanks.

When I tried it on my 5D, A is always 0 and B is always 1 ..... but i know i put around 10k on this camera. This is from my 5D Unknown (0093)3,16 : 32,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,65535,65535

use the fomular below.... i have 1 click on this camera.... hehe... i know i put around 10k on it.... Cancount software use the same fomular to calculate actuations for Canon 1 series... I don't know if this method works for other cameras as well . Can anyone confirm this...?

Well... This actuations count is for fun only. Shutter can fail any time..

If A is 0, your actualy count is B else if A>0 Count is (A*65536) + B -------------------------------

Google for "exif viewer 2".

THis software is for free. It not only shows you the exif data pretty good, but also the total number of shutter releases of that camera if you look at one of your recent pictures with it.
