In the 1970s, someone had the brilliant idea to release some rose-ringed parakeets in a park in Brussels. Maybe they assumed these animals wouldn't survive the Belgian climate, but they did. Not only did they survive, they kept breeding. Until about 10 years ago, they would only be spotted in Brussels, but now they are spreading and can be seen (and especially heard) in a larger part of Belgium. There is little doubt they will continue spreading.
Taken in our garden with a good helping of luck. Camera with zoom lens mounted was within immediate reach because I was using it to watch a construction crane being disassembled in the distance.

Very attractive birds. Haven't seen any yet here in Phoenix, but we have a thriving population of introduced Peach-faced Lovebirds, sometimes called Rosy-faced. They were here when we moved to Phoenix in 1994 about 25 miles to our east but have now expanded and visit our yard almost daily. These photos are all from our back yard.
