Just released Nikon D2X

Karry, I agree that there is always something to be gained by listening. However, it is hard to standby and hear Innocent give "advice" (albeit a negative one) to someone who is seeking information, when he is not qualified to do so. its like standing within a group of people and hearing someone give false/lies information to someone who is about to act upon that advice.

He needs to talk authoratitively only about subjects he has experience and knowledge with. As you have said before, using proffesional level equipment does not make you a photographer. Innocent has yet to learn to take a decent picture.

My thought is (having seen many online forums and those of his ilk...is to IGNORE him entirely. The moderator might choose closer scrutiny (or not), but in the meanwhile, he will eventually lose steam. Those of that ilk who choose to haunt forums like this, only do so to seek out attention...even negative. They don't care at all about the community, cameras, or factual info being shared. It appears they just want to hang with someone online because no one in "real life" can tolerate them for long.

So, Paul, help the forum by taking away his fuel. When you attack him (even deservedly), you make yourself out to be the bad guy, too. Let's return to civility or co-existence at least.
 
I agree completly. Innocent is being fed by the constant feedback to his posts. The best thing we can do is ignore him and hope he goes away, and real photographers can go back to getting meaningful information from those with REAL experience to share.

If someone knows that incorrect information has been posted then, simply post the correct information or state your experience or opinion of the item.

Ad hominin remarks are not necessary nor respected.

That is my case not undue criticism. Correct me if I'm wrong. I have challenged the forum to post one single image shot with digital where the sky and the background is well exposed with natural details in the sky. Response: none, none from the so called experts. Let me say again, I need n o tuition about layering or Photoshop application in that, I have a remote feeling that my competency in computer systems will at best be matched in this forum. You may go on pour out your mind, that¹s your prerogative but i f you insult me then you are taking a risk.

I can understand the pains of being reminded that you've made a wrong investment but that¹s a different matter, it does not however turn a lemon, which the Nikon digital is into orange.
 
If you look on the www.photo.net galleries, Manuel Toral's landscapes "Valle del Huerna" and Yuri Bonder's "Russian landscape" show nice detail using Nikon cameras. There are also many other fine and inspirational photos on this site.

Thanks very much for your reply. I am sorry about the delay in replying.

I suppose I am a bit of a cuckoo in this forum as I am a member of the sister Contax forum and use Contax 35mm and Mamiya medium format cameras. I like to keep up to date with what is going on in all Dirk's forums though, especially on digital and what's new, and because I learn from them. I receive the posts on selected subjects automatically.

Your comments on digital are very interesting.
I have not plunged yet because of the cost of it and because of the money I have invested in my current cameras and my like of them and the lenses.

The dust problem has put me off DSLRs and partly for that reason I was wondering about the Olympus which has a built in dust filter. I have a film scanner and a flatbed scanner and am pleased with the reults I get from them. Scanning is very slow and tedious though.

Your thoughts on what we sometimes call bridge cameras here, are interesting too and the use of the screen. This was at first such an alien concept but I am now used to it and like using it with our little Casio. Somebody said that the LCD screen is the 21st century equivalent of the ground glass screen. I had thought that I would not get the results I wanted from a bridge camera but I am obviously wrong. I will look into them again.

I hope that I am not too much off topic and as a result of all this I may well buy a Nikon. If I do, I will come back and let you know and how I have got on with it.
