Leica Elpro 12 11 Adapter for 100mm f28

I do like the look of R6 but dislike the tank like appearance of R8 and R9. The look matters more to me than the functions. The great thing about R6 is that it has mirror lock. I don't have R6 but R4.

I also prefer Canon 5D to 1DsII for the same reason.

DJ, are you able to tell me more about your first photo ? It looks great but it is a bit abstract to me.

The other reason I like my R6 is that you can use it without electronics. If I'm travelling to out of the way places I always take a manual camera as back up. My wife's Minolta 7xi packed up when we were trekking in Nepal a few years ago. Not much chance of getting it fixed there, so, no power, no pictures!

Joseph,

Sorry, I provided a label text in the image upload, but apparently they're not being used.

The first photo is at Lower Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona. It's basically an underground canyon which has been shaped by water flow, providing an incredible set of alien-looking caves through which you walk and crawl.

There are some very weird and beautiful shapes and colors to be seen here, although the colors are not as obvious in the often low ambient light, sometimes overpowered by sunlight from an opening to the outside. Here's another image from there.

DJ,

Have you thought about trade in your 1DsII and get a 5D ? You might get a few bucks and a lighter camera bag.

Back to the original topic of this panel. Leica is basically using extension rings as in the case of Elpro adaptors for their 100mm and 60mm lenses in order to reach the 1:1 magnification. Zeiss is different, she applies floating elements for C-Y 100mm, C-Y 60mm and N100mm for them to reach 1:1 magnification.

I have some evidence to suggest Zeiss approach is better in the situation of high magnification. I have both Zeiss 100 2 and Zeiss 100 2.8. The 100 2 is better than 100 2.8 from 1m to infinity. However, when I apply extension ring to 100 2 to get high magnifications, the image quality deteriorates badly.
Although Zeiss C-Y 100 2.8 is not as good as Leica 100 2.8, the relationship reverses at high magnifications.

Joseph, are you trying to get a cheap 1DsII out of me???

I have to say I'm not tempted in the least. I love my 1DsII. It's built like a brick, has excellent weatherproofing, and I don't really mind the weight. I believe it helps get steadier handheld shots at slow shutter speeds. And I can't complain about the images it's giving me, other than my own deficiencies.

After my Arizona trip a couple of weeks ago I did realize I need a heavier duty tripod head. I haven't been using the tripod much, and I have the small Novoflex MagicBall head, which was just suitable for the Contax ND, but the 1DSII really strains it on pure vertical shots. I should be getting my Acratech Ultimate Ballhead tomorrow.

Joseph, are you specifically comparing the Elpro 1:2~1:1 for the Leitz 100/2.8 to the Zeiss 100/2.8 at 1:1? What's involved in 'floating elements'?

Regards
