Not thrilled with my 10D

I think you are being a little bit pedantic by saying shutter speed does not cause camera shake . Ok it in itself does not cause the camera to shake, its the person holding it that does that but in the terms of this thread I am sure everyone reading my reply knew what i meant and I am sure you did too. Hi

Despite my earlier problems, I got a 10D with grip and 24-70 f/2.8 L on Friday. Shot some product shots on Saturday and found it was not focussing properly with auto focus. Manual focus is fine but AF is out. I took it back to the dealer today (with a CD of s&le images to illustrate the problem) and am waiting to see what happens next. I would prefer a new replacement, assuming Canon can guarantee that it will work in AF mode, but I may consider a repair, although I don't see why I should have to have a repair on something brand new and costing over £1,000.

I hope I can get a good one, it felt like a nice camera.

Glad you people seem to have good units though :)

Simon

Michael,
I have just started with the 10D I took some photos of my wife. She complained it showed too much detail. I am absolutely thrilled with the camera.
I wonder if later models had the focus problem fixed. I used a 28-105 canon lens at 80mm zoom

Francois, if your wife has that many issues with the sharpness of detail of the 10D, you could always use Photoshop and gaussian blur the whole image. Or better yet, use the healing brush to take any "blemishes" out of her portrait; I have a client who loved the work I did on her (took a good 10 to 20 years off her portrait, something that was very easy to do with the amount of detail in the Canon shot). ;-)

Simon, good luck with your service issue; let us know how it goes.
