Confessions of a V2 Owner

If there is one camera in this world that has been loathed more than the V1–if that’s actually possible—it has to be its younger sibling, the V2. But this under-rated box isn’t half bad. It usually gets the job done; and does it quickly and easily most of the time. I like mine a lot!

I agree. As you know I have many N1 cameras (and lenses) - multiple V1, V2, V3 and J5. I use a V2 more than any other body and find I am most comfortable with it. The built in grip feels good in hand and is solid. Battery and card access is fine. Controls are sufficient and properly located. Of course I would prefer it to use the V1 battery and have the articulated touch screen of the J5 but the size and layout of the V2 more than make up for that to me.

Here's one of my V2's, taken with a V1 and 18.5

I couldn't agree with you more about the V2. A nice and capable mini mirrorless DSLR; always thought it looked like one. Unfortunately for me though I only have one V2. Several years ago I was trying to find a new copy but was unsuccessful. All my N1 cameras were bought new. In fact, I have never bought an used camera in my life. That could change though since the few sellers selling new bodies want extortionist prices. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, the V2 does look a lot like a miniature DSLR to me as well. I was too late to the party to find new N1 cameras and lenses when I stumbled into the system, so all of my stuff is used from MPB, KEH, CraigsList, and eBay. The closest to new for me was a refurb V3 with 10-30 PD plus a refurb V2 with 10-100 from Adorama. All the bodies I've bought used have been fine, but I have had to return a few lenses that arrived with defector aperture gears.

How about a couple cat photos? I've been holding back on them but figured it is time again. These are both with a V3 and the wonderful 32/1.2.

Trixie on 4/27/23. ISO 400, 1/160th @ f/2.8.

Molly on 5/7/23. ISO 200, 1/80th @ f/2. I used the popup flash for the first time here to bring out texture in the black fur.

Purr...
Purr-ty little cats, Trixie and Molly. They are both cute and cool, real cool. The 32 1.2 did an amazing job, too. Of course, we've come to expect that from the N1 flagship lens. At least, it's my flagship lens. Just love this lens.

The timing was good--thanks for sharing your furry friends with the N1 community! :z04-dance00:

I was a little hesitant to buy my 32/1.2 but decided I might as well round out my system. It is a splendid lens - so sharp! I just need to remember to stop it down a bit when using it so I get enough DOF on my close subjects like the cats. For me it needs a body with a good grip and it feels best on a V3.

Yes, a very cool lens. I have used it a couple of times on my V3, but for now it will continue to be mounted to one of my V1s. I have a lot of grips for my V1 cameras, but I also use the 32 without a grip. My hands got used to it and it's not problem.

Moon Over Tokyo

I wanted to shoot the moon using the 30-110mm lens. Maybe most N1 shooters use the 70-300mm. I don't have that lens, so this was the next closest thing. I don't know if this image is any good, but this is what I got. :geek:

Ship in Bay

This photo was cropped more than the usual. It was taken in Yokohama, one of the best places for photography in Japan, IMHO. :p
