RAW Developer revisited

Does anyone have a person to call at Contax?

All I get is an answering machine.

Thanks for any help, which is more than I can expect from Contax I guess.

Marc, sorry, I meant to give it to you earlier.
Laurie McGinnis is a head of the Tech Department. You can either reach her at 732-560-0060 or email her at Laurie.McGinnis@kyocera.com. She is actually great in answering her calls and emails.

I should add that I have on a handful of occasions experienced something similar, but in a very different context. It was when saving TIFF working copies as reduced JPEGs for web publishing. I've had a few of the JPEGs somehow end up with a similar line. Re-doing the resize operation gave me a clean copy.

Weird.

I just remembered... In-camera image conversion algorithms include compensation for dead pixels by interpolation into the dead areas. RAW file comes out without any modification, that's why we see such strange behavior.

For those waiting for the Camera RAW plugin be patient for a little longer and watch Adobe's website for an update sometime soon. I just sent an email to Thomas Knoll the lead programmer for PS CS. I thought I'd share it with all of you...

"Thanks Thomas. Good job on the Camera RAW beta! I have sent an email to Kyocera/Contax asking them why they aren't more like Adobe. I think I'll add some Adobe stock to my portfolio. Excellent communication, creativity, technical ability, quality, leadership!!! You are eating Japan's development lunch! Maybe Adobe should vertically integrate and buy Kyocera! Thanks for your hard work." For those who have N Digitals we should all be thankful for Adobe's willingness to update Camera RAW to accept the N Digital RAW file so that we don't need to rely on a company that doesn't respond to its customers or pay attention to a market segment or have the guts to publicly announce a strategy...Kyocera. Adobe has earned loyalty from me that will be hard to get rid of. Bravo Adobe.

Take notice Kyocera. Everytime I see one of your US commercials, it reinforces how poorly you have handled development of the ND. The guy at the podium looks like an idiot that was sold a bill of goods and the employees remind me of brainwashed staffers being led to a slaughter. I won't let my employees buy Kyocera products in my companies because I don't know if you will develop or support them based on the way you have botched the ND (the product is great...the development, marketing, and planning is a great business school FUBAR lesson). If you aren't going to upgrade the product then have enough respect for your clients to announce your intentions, good or bad, so we can make our decisions!

I'm might just go long Adobe and short Kyocera.

I'm told by Thomas Knoll of Adobe that the new Camera RAW plugin version 2.2 is now available for download at www.adobe.com under "Downloads"...Photoshop...Windows or MAC

Enjoy.

Thanks Adobe!

Sorry...when you get to the Adobe website look for the downloads choice under "Support". FYI...Adobe's support of the ND is unofficial so the ND is not listed under the cameras supported. Download 2.2 anyway because it will work with RAW files from the ND. I have been using it for about two months and it rocks. Enjoy!

A HUGE thank you to Greg for getting this Adobe RAW developer off the ground, and now up and running !!!!!

IMO, it is the best ND news I could have asked for.

Thank you , Thank you, Thank you....
