RX vs RXII

Hi Andreas,
I agree with you entirely that there is a difference in the flare control of the lenses C-Y 50 1.4 and N 50 1.4, but there could also be a difference in the bodies,at least this is what I believe. Dirk suggested the same point on 3 Sept in the N section comparing N and C-Y lenses. Although you mentioned that the coating inside the cameras N,RX and Aria are the same in term of reflectiveness,I see something more than that. Inside the mirror chamber of the N,the lateral side wall is made of a very black material which absorpts light a lot better than the rest the chamber. This special side wall material is seen only in N,but not in RX, Aria nor G2 and this could contribute to the overall difference in the flare control of the lenses body combination.

Hi Joseph, You are right - if one has a closer look inside there is a difference in the coating. Thanks for this hint ! Do you have other experiences (comparisons) with Contax lenses in terms of flare ? Regards Andreas

I find 50 1.7 gives less flare than 50 1.4(I mean when you look at the photos). 45 2.8 has less flare than 50 1.7. My 21 2.8 has slightly more flare than 28 2.8 and 25 2.8. The flare control of my teles are good including 100 2,100 2.8,180 2.8 and 85 1.4. The flare control of my 100 2 is the best. I have never seen any flare yet in my G45 2,only very small amount in the photos of my G28 2.8. G is a small system,it has a smaller body chamber, smaller internal areas in the lenses and the deep seating of the Biogons effectively makes it a less flaring system. The N system is in general less prone to flare than the C-Y. My Leica R4 60 2.8 macro is the worst in flare control, although it does give very good pictures in term of clarity. The lens coating technology of Leica is not as good as Zeiss in general, but it sometimes beat Zeiss in other points such as the prices. The internal coating of R4 is not good at all. I wonder whether Leica has improved its coating in recent years. Cheers Andi.

Joseph, Thanks for the discription of your flare experience. What was astonishing to me was the bad flare control of the Leica Macro lens. On the other hand I sometimes have heard some rumours about flare problems in some Leica lenses, even in the new Apo-aspherical ones. But obviously nobody talks about it because it can't be what is not allowed to be.....(sorry for my german like english...) Regards Andi
