Summicron 35 Version

I have both asph and v4 35 cron, the asph version is much heavier and solid in contronstruction, it seems Leica has added more than just a asph lens to make it feel so solid. my view that canadian made lens are not very solid in construction and had not choosen the best material, although you might think more highly of its optical quality, which is again a matter of taste.

Hi Robert,
I have three M-lenses, and I tryed all the diferent rear cap, but the problem is the same. After this I bought one new, in my local Leica shop, and nothing is better. I don't understand where is the problem, because on the other lenses the caps fit good.
Maybe it is my summ that don't want to be like the other one lenses.
Thanks
Laurent

for Laurent De Palma-- sorry I said Brian in a prior posting -- if none of your rear M caps made by Leica and marked Leica on the front fit snuggly when turned a little to the right, I don't know what to say.
The bayonet mount on all of the M lenses are supposed to be the same, so that they all mount correctly on the M camera. And the rear Leica M caps are all supposed to be the same so that -- unless worn -- they all fit any Leica M lens.
Ebay has several rear M caps for sale -- all of them generic and not made by Leica, one in Britain for sale for less that $1USD.
If convenient for you, I would take the lens with you to a Leica dealer and see if he has a back cap that will fit. Otherwise, maybe someone else on the Leica sites can suggest something. -- bob cole

Hi Laurent DiPalma,
Loose M-rear caps. Get some vinyl striping tape, which is thin, flexible and strong and put it on the flat surface of the cap facing the lens. It has solved the problem for me. Black electrical tape is too thick and doesn't adhere. Scotch "magic" tape is too thin and brittle.

for Laurent De Palma-- I believe I may have a solution to make your rear M cap fit snugly:
Looking at one of my M caps, I see that there is a plastic insert cemented inside and that the lens mount grips the insert at the bottom of the insert.
As a temporary measure only, so that you can can store the lens without getting dust inside, you might try cutting a piece of cardboard -- like the thickness of the cardboard on the bottom of a legal yellow note pad -- and seating the carboard inside of the rear cap.
If you have a compass, you could measure how round the cardboard should be and then slip the cardboard inside the cap. Then, when you place the cap over the lens mount, the cap should fit snugly.
Another temporary solution: If you are willing to experiment and maybe ruin the cap, since the cap does not fit as it is, you might try to loosen the plastic insert and re-cementing it a little farther away from the top of the cap. [at present, the insert should be flush with the top of the cap.]
Also if the insert is already a little loose, placing cardboard inside and then putting the cap over the lens might loosen it even further.
One last thought:
You might just take one lens off your camera and put the other lens on --and your problem will be solved. --bob cole
