Switching to Leica S2 with H adapter?

Hi! Thanks for sharing this experience. I admit I am also thinking to get a S2 or S2-P if I find a good deal. As I also own Hasselblad V & H lenses, the adapter rings could allow me to get into this system "smoothly"!

Is there a conversion ratio with the H adapter? Then, is the HC 100/2.2 comparable to a 'S 100mm' lens?

No, there is no optical conversion factor with the Leica S to H adaptor. There are no glass elements in that adapter, just electronics and contacts to allow the S body to communicate with H lenses and vice versa.

I stumbled over this thread after I took the chance to purchase an S2-P body in like new condition plus H and V adaptors a few months ago and I 'd like to share my experiences here as well:

1) Using the Hasselblad H system since its introduction back in the film days and updating those bodies until the H5D I do own a couple of H lenses. These are the 'old' lens types without the orange dot, i.e. offering shutter speeds up to 1/800s. Those lenses work absolutely flawlessly on the S2, there is no difference to their usage on an H body. This is true for changing the aperture as well. Lens information is written to the EXIF data and can be retrieved by the post processing software like C1, LR and others. Both of these named raw processors even offer lens correction modules. LR is the more comprehensive one in this respect. There is even autofocus possible when the HTS (tilt/shift) adaptor is being used which is not possible on an H body.

2) V lenses can be focused manually only on the S and the aperture needs to be stopped down (i.e. no transfer from/to the body) but focusing is simple due to the bright viewfinder and the precise electronic focus indicator. Much more convenient than on my 503CW body and a much better hit rate. It is surprising to see what those lenses are capable of which is a great pleasure to see.

3) Haptic is of course a very subjective matter, but I have to admit that I have always been tempted by the bigger (D)SLR body form factor like a Pentax67 or Exakta66 and as such I do feel/felt very familiar with the S body right from the first moment and I sincerely hope it will last for a while to come.

All in all a successful experiment for the time being.

Udo

Thanks Joseph, hopefully it is helpful for others, although it is far away from a "review". There is not too much information to be found. Fortunately it was an experiment with positive results. Due to my remote location one of few ways to go....
