> [Tina: I have read the major reviews and many postings on the LC5, and went ahead and bought one anyway. And I'm not disappointed. It's an incredible camera, as long as you stay with ISO 100 or remove the noise from your ISO 400 photos manually, and there are a number of good software offerings. I've used my Photoshop and still had good 8 X 10 quality on the 400's after the cleanup. This is my fifth digital camera, and nothing else comes close. Bruce Dale has some great shots at his site: http://www.brucedale.com Look for his American Southwest LC5 collection link. Dlux]

Far be it to remind EVERYONE that there is a DIGILUX catagory on this site. It was my impression that this tiny little corner was set aside for the equally tiny group of M5 devotees. My Mistake!

Dear Ebenezer

This tiny little corner it may be, but I fear it the local vestige of all things sensible and tasteful. I say this with no trepidation because us M5ers have always been the odd bods on c&us.

From memory, was it not your fine self who sparked this bazaar frenzy with horror stories over R9 digibacks. The sky is falling in. I have a strange mixture of emotions from excitement of great potentialities through to impending doom. I’ve already gone through this sort of stuff in the mid 1980s when I switched from Canon FD to M Leica. E Leitz GMBH will never go and switch lens mounting systems, I’m assured of continued supply and back up service. Alas E Leitz is no longer. Now that I’ve finally invested in SLR technology, Leica AG seem to be on the verge of going Japanese on me. Seems the M3 and M5 will continue to have a place in my workbag for some years yet.

Please forward news of how your new M5 turns out when it finally arrives.

Best regards, Craig

Hadn't you heard that Olympus was developing a 6.1MP digital back via Cosina for the M5 camera?

So Sorry Ebenezer, but if you, like I do, received the Leicainfo by mail, you'd see that it is impossible to answer a particular question in a thread, and change the subject line. Most of us are members of other lists by email, and are used to a subject getting broader.

It is hard to remember to cut the pertinent lines go to the right place in the email, paste them in, then answer. It is IMPOSSIBLE to not change with a flow of conversation, like one does naturally.

I don't know the answer, because of the awkward way the email portion of thi s list is built.

Hi guys?galc,
The M5 arrived from sherry tonight, with the M6 .72 Masking. The finder is as bright as ANY M camera I have. I can't wait to try it out. The shutter is SOOO quiet . Had I not known the serial number, I would have thought the camera was new. today was Ghristmas at my house.
I can't wait for my other M5 to be retro-fitted.

For those interested in a second(M-5) body, check out "The" auction site in the M-5 catagoty. The "no reserve" one looks great. I have, unfortunately, my limit(according to "the boss" so i'm out of the bidding.

Ebenezer

Thanks for the info

Looks like you will have to sack "the boss"!

best regards craig

It's been almost two weeks since I received my M5 with the .72 masking retrofitted. While the 28MM frame does "take some getting used to", especially with glasses, it's great to have the 75MM frame available.
In my opinion the M5 is now the perfect Leica M model. The rewind on the baseplate far-surpasses the others and the slightly larger body is MUCH more comfortable for my slightly-arthritic oversized hands. Add a "Softie" and I am able to get acceptable 8X10 prints at 1/8th of a second.
I am now in Leica Heaven.
