Wide & Super Wide Angle Lens on Digital Sensor Belong to Zeiss

DJ,
Thanks for the information. Again, this is more confirmation to be as to the CA on the Leitz wide angle lens is not as well controlled as the way the Zeiss Distagon T* lens.

Chi,
I tested the 50 and the 60th Anniversary and they are both very sharp lens. My good friend David also have tested his two versions of the Zeiss Planar T* 85mm F1.2 Anniversary and he also confirmed with the results. There are two areas that the 50th and the 60th Anniverary are different:

1) The 50th Anniversary when stop down to F2.8 the special Ninja star blade of the aperature opening are gone while the 60th Anniversary still have the Ninja Star instead of the hex or regular octagonal opening. This feature is very unique to Zeiss lens that almost all of them have this feature thus contributing to the beautiful bokeh. The Leica Apo-Summicron-R 90mm F2.0 do not have this feature when stop down at high speed f stops. Thus, I agree with you that Zeiss glass yields beautiful bokeh.

2) The Zeiss Planar T* 50th anniversary have a more purple color multicoating while the 60th Anniversary have a more deep coating with greenish colors.

Yes, I agree with your statement about the astigmatism and skin tone rendering. For ex&le, even the Canon EF 85mm F1.2L yield a more pleasing skin tone than the Canon EF 85mm F1.8. Sometimes it goes beyond sharpness that makes the lens very special. Thus, the Zeiss 85mm F1.2 Anniversary is a very special lens that yield very sharp images and yet render pleasing skin tone and magnificent bokeh at wide open f stops.

No problem Chi. These Zeiss Planar T* 85mmm F1.2 50th and 60th Anniversary are just the best lens in this lineup. The Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm F2.8 is the best wide angle lens in the world. I would never give up on these Zeiss Distagon 21mm F2.8.

The more I study Zeiss lens the more I like it. Now I even consider beyond wide and super wide angle Zeiss lens.

Son, Have you tried the Zeiss lenses of M mount ? They are stunning. 50 2 has nicer bokeh, skin tone and colour than N50 1.4 or the C-Y 50s. 35 2 is also very good. 25 2.8 is stunning, stunning and I am really stunned.

Chi,
I never get to try it and please don't stun me with them since I am already in trouble with the recent purchase of the Tele-Apo-Tessar T* 300mm F2.8.

Hmmm, you just got the 300/2.8 Tele-APO-Tessar? Does your new wife know about this? I think we can blackmail Son with this valuable information

.

For now my money is going into getting me to places where I can use all these lenses I've been acquiring these past few months.

"..my money is going into getting me to places where I can use all these lenses.."

DJ, just the other days I went back to look at some of your travel pictures with your ND. I was really impressed with the images and the quality you squeezed out from the ND. I know it was not easy to shoot with until later CS and 2x00aMH battery came along.

looking forward to seeing more of your travel images, and hope you have not given up your N gears totally.

I am planning a family trip to HK and Japan next March, I am thinking to lug my ND and 5 N lenses there if I go to Kyoto. Leaving my 1D2 and newly acquired three L zooms home. :) Won't that be adventurous?

I took my ND with one 24-85 to London and Paris last fall. I really enjoy it. It was a little heavy to lug around. Unforturnately, I was shooting in Jpeg by mistaken the whole trip. Stupid me.

Son,
I saw an auction in e-bay won recently by someone involving a 300 2.8 . The price is USD 6000.

If it is you, congradulations !

Chi that was me. I am looking forward to test out this lens. It is such a rare lens that I can to create the profile for this lens. I have a feeling it is the best 300mm tele lens ever built.

DJ, this lens has to be the best in Zeiss lens lineup and my wife understands that I take these lens seriously and this was an opportunity to use such fine lens during a time that folks only want to use autofocus with the telephoto lens.
