Birmingham with K7

I have been shooting the D700 hand held throughout the week. I will post them here though because I am the photographer and it is a record of photos in my city.
Gear talk is nonsense. The D700 struggles at night in some situations. Many shots are missed I assure you. It can do fantastic though by managing to nail focus at times. You win some you lose some. The lens can be amazing so yes no complaints there but anybody that thinks mirrorless can do everything well you are talking gear talk. NO CAMERA DOES EVERYTHING. Some simple situations are miss focussed due to low contrast and low light and fast reactions needed on the streets at times. A mirrorless EVF will look like a complete mess used at night and the AF will not be much better than this D700 no matter what you all say. I do not believe you.

Very nice. Numbers 2 & 4 are great. I really like #4 where you caught the glow on the cigarette!

Here are some from today same camera D700 105mm. I tried manually focussing today and got mixed results mostly worse than using the AF but it is useful at times because it is quicker.
Pentax ( K7 onwards ) screen seems more consistent I feel but it is not an exact science to prove. D810 is brighter so that might be better than D700. I won't bog this down further with geartalk. YMMV shall we say.

Nice. I like the stuff from Monday (post #205) especially #2 and #4. Also #4 on post 207. Hey, I just got a haircut the other day, so I can relate to your salon shots! LOL. Your setup @ ISO 800/1600 and f/1.4 @ 1/125 does the trick. Autofocus or manual focus? This is somewhat similar to when I am at a music venue and you eventually figure-out the stage lighting (intensity and WB)... then you can focus on the subjects (instead of the camera). But you still have to pay attention to good technique, camera settings, etc. -- think about what you're doing! But it's just nice to be outside and take-in the environment, right? Wintertime in the northern hemisphere = night shots! Birmingham... a great city... the foundation of modern industrial society. You're in the heart of F1 country. B&W looks great.

If you enjoy some then that is good. Street Photos are subjective and controversial and so I do not really want to say too much. Many people will believe they are rubbish. I always have liked the potential so keep trying again and again. People will pick out some of the easy ones as their favourites when all the time I value the ones that are not easy to repeat. Yes the settings became a theme basically for me. 125th 800 iso F1.4 is a lot of situations with the Nikon and this lens. I just alter it when I think it needs it either up or down. I do not really check the meter anymore because it confuses me after seeing too many pictures far too bright but that is my lack of experience with D700 perhaps. Some people will like them but most people say 80% or 95% will say they are rubbish. I DO NOT CARE . I will keep trying to get that something special.
