Digilux 2

Hi Scott.
You mean that the Canon is more expensive than the Leica i guess

.
If you want a Canon zoom covering the range 28-90mm (equiv. 24x36) at f/2.0-2.4 it does not exist.
So you'll have to buy 2 zooms opened at 2.8 (16-35 and 24-70) and the total price will be much higher than the Digilux 2's:
about 3,800 USD…
Otherwise, i'd prefer a larger sensor but i don't like the reflex cameras and i prefer the Leica colors…

Thanks for your reply LCT. Do you, or does anyone else know, what other cameras are using the sensor size that the digilux 2 plans to use? The only one I'm aware of is the Nikon 5700. (I'm trying to think of image quality comparisons between similar sized sensors).

The main question I have is that with a $1000 Sony DSC-F828 which is going to be 8 MP, 28 to 200mm f/2 - 2.8 how well will Leica hold?

Don't get me wrong I really fancy the Digilux2. I'm already thinking how much money I can get for selling my dog to the circus so I can finance it. But isn't the timing off again? Leica is releasing a 5 MP camera when everyone else will be releasing 6-7 MP cameras. Also they are doing it in February when sales are the slowest. I really want it because it seems like a great concept with a manual zoom and aperture control but is it worth it? In this case you are not buying classic but a tool. You can't resell it 2 years down the road for even half what you paid for it. I don't know, heart says yes go out and get it when head says no. Plus knowing Leica (like Contax) first production run will be buggy and not really up to the standards. That means that good equipment will reach shelves around Aprli/May. Who the hell knows what Sony/Contax/Nikon and Olympus will have by than.

I think those are prety well my feelings too Matt. At the moment the Sony looks like the one especially since it has a new to our market sensor type but I would like to read reviews and see results when it finally appears.
