News DPReview was sold to Gear Patrol

I see the DPReview link in Gear Patrol in small letters, at the Bottom, on the Desktop but I don't see it on my iPhone.
I have been out to Gear Patrol a few times. It is NOT me. I may have had some interest in it 30 years ago, but not today.
I have a hard time believing that DPR will last on Gear Patrol.

One simple thing to do - a simple poll of current members who were also members of Gear Patrol before DPR.
It wouldn't surprise me if the answer was near zero.

Considering that prior to Gear Patruol purchasing DPR, I had not heard about Gear Patrol before, I do believe it would be a very low percentage or zero.

I am sure Gear Patrol bought DPR as they believed that quite few new bodies on the site would produce more sales.
All I know is that any new buyers will not include me.

And if I am not unique among DPR followers, GP may be unloading DPR in a year or so.

The typical DPR demographic is older, which I presume is not Gear Patrol's target audience.

How the internet’s most beloved camera site found life after Amazon

Paywalled at Fast Company the site DPR Links to.

“All that changed the discussion around DPReview from shutting it down to finding a new home. Yang says the New York City-based Gear Patrol, which has a staff of around 50, reached out to Amazon as a potential acquirer, in part because he was a longtime DPReview reader who looked up to the expert writers and researchers who built the platform. (After all, one of the defining elements of Gear Patrol is its product photos.) When he met with the Seattle-based DPReview team, he found a group of people that, like his team, had a mission more serious than affiliate marketing.”

Eric Yang was long time DPR reader who bought the site? Interesting.

Thank you for the text.

2 things come to my mind while reading this:

Great marketing story and why did they only mention DPrevived and Digicamfinder, but not us (DPRforum.com)?

I also contacted Scott and Richard. But they did not respond.

Maybe they see us more as a competition vs. the others than we might have thought?

Time will tell.

No mention of others like the Facebook and Google Groups, DPR Alumni Groups. I don’t frequent those and DPRevived mentioned either.

Time will tell, how well it will go in the future.

I have just noticed that advertisements are now appearing in the middle of threads, i.e. between posts, over at DPR. Looks like Gear Patrol is starting to find ways to make money from the site! The sidebar ads have also changed, i.e. new advertisers appearing. It all look to be US-based so not localised to the country of the person viewing.
