First specs of 300D

.... there is nothing yet available on the US-Canon site, but on the German one. The new Canon 300D seems to be almost the same as the 10D. Just minor things are missing. The body for ex&le is not as sturdy as the one of the n10D and the 300D has no costum functions.

But apart of that, the 300D seems to have the same chip (6.3) etc.

Lets see what else we can find over the next 2 days..

The price is agressive with 1099 Euro in Europe (rougly the same in USD). Availablity in September. So after the aggressive announceent of Sony with the F828 for the same price incl. a Zeiss 28-200 lens, we might see a little war this autums and even stronger falling prices.

Great!

>The downside seems to be that the camera, unlike the 10D is mainly silver=20 >.Why could they not have kept it all black ??

Anyone know what range of these new EF-S lenses will be offered? I assume these are smaller lighter digital-only lenses like those recently announced by Nikon. I did a web search but came up empty.

Hi Stuart,

The rear element of the new lens extends back through the lens mount, and relies upon the extra clearance given by the digital body's smaller mirror. Presumably they've implemented some kind of physical interlock to ensure that the EF-S lenses will only fit the appropriate bodies, or else they've done it electronically by making sure that the older cameras won't fire when an EF-S lens is mounted.

Either way, the goal will be to prevent people from putting the new lens on a full-frame camera and run the risk of knackering their mirrors (and possibly the rear element of the lens) when they fire the first shot.

Also, I see that they have produced a new set of extension tubes to accept the EF-S lenses, so that's another indication that the EF-S glass won't fit on a standard mount.
