Is there any third party lens fitting Canon R camera directly?

There is now a Meike 85/1.4 AF lens with RF fitting which is apparently approved by Canon. Hopefully more 3rd party AF RF fitting lenses will follow.

B&H is showing these two -

but no word if Canon approved or not.

Canon just posted some hefty 1st quarter numbers, As long as they keep doing that they probably don't feel much need for 3rd party help.

I do not think that they are Canon approved. Will be interesting to see how Canon deals with this in the future.

Do you mean the third party lens for Canon R camera needs manual focus while the third party lens for Sony and Nikon does not need manual focus?
Sony slows all 3rd party lenses to a maximum of 15fps while the Sony brand lenses are allowed to go much faster.

There are a few, but currently (and it's been like that for a long time) it's more or less official, that Canon disputes the right of third party lens manufacturers to implement AF, apparently because it infringes on Canon's patents.

There's been speculation as to why that is so, but most see it as Canon's way to win time to make a complete RF lens lineup, before letting others in on the RF market. Another reason could be that many RF lenses rely on digital corrections (typically vignetting, geometric distortion, and CA), which goes far beyond the physical lens protocol, and therefore is difficult to reverse engineer without infringing on Canon's intellectual property.

As you write, the downside for Canon is that some may choose a different system due to lens availability and price. The upside is that Canon backs RF lenses unequivocally and that RF lenses are good and well corrected.

It is hoped that Canon sooner or later will license the RF mount and protocol to others, but as of now, it's just speculation.

Cosina already have a Canon-approved RF fitting lens - but it's manual - Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.0. The Meike RF fit 85mm f/1.4 is supposedly approved by Canon too, and is AF.

I own those Rokinon/Samyang lenses, an 85/1.4 and a 14/2.8. Both function well with R and R6. Dustin Abbott had some issues using them on his R3 so I can’t be sure of Canon changing protocols when writing firmware for R3. Fact: Samyang took both lenses out of the market on behalf of a lawsuit Canon started against them. Greetz, Hans

Don't know why that link goes to the middle of the article. I was at the top of the page when I grabbed it.

Until such time as a third party produces, if ever, an RF compatible lens, who not use third party EF and EF-S lenses with the EF/RF adapter ?
I have just purchased an R10 with the adapter. I attached my Sigma 170-500mm f5.6-6.3 APO DG lens, purchased in 2006 for my 350D. Perfect focus, perfect exposure and the colours looked brilliant.
