New Contax G2 Kit Price too good to be true

Fabio,
I didn't intend to be secretive about G2 pricing.
I purchased the silver G2, 45mm lens and flash kit in early October for a price lower than that offered by B&H. I was so delighted with the deal and wanted to help others save money.
When Colin called the store, they did not quote the same price. I suspect they realized they gave me too good of a deal. Also, at the time of purchase, neither the store nor I was aware of the rebate offer. Maybe they have reconsidered their price based on the rebate.

I'm VERY tempted to buy a G2...I really wanted a black one (no rebates for the black ones), but for that kind of money, I think I can simply live with a "titanium" one ;-)

Regards,

Austin

Anybody found a dealer with a G2 kit that has the 35mm or 35-70mm lens instead of the 45? B&H only has the 45 kit. I'd like to get one of the other lenses with the kit discount if possible.
Thanks!!

I purchased the G1 / 35mm kit a few years back. I am very happy with the pictures and action of the camera - I was looking to add lenses (90mm and then the 21mm). But with this price drop of the G2 kit, I am contemplating upgrading. I travel and enjoy the light feel of the G1. Any recommendations? What could I expect to get for my G1 if I sold it today? Thanks in advance.

Hi Shaun,

I too, had the G1 for a few years and loved that camera, especially for travel - originally I had opted for it over the G2 mainly because of size. I upgraded because of the G2's focusing system, and thought that size would be an issue (it does look and feel bigger, initially), but believe me, after using it and packing it around a little, I don't miss my G1 at all. Quieter, faster (!) , and just a slicker feel. Buy the G2 and you won't look back.

As far as what you'll get for your G1 body, prices have dropped so much that I would recommend keeping it as a second body. Here in Tokyo, a G1 in prime condition can be had for about 28,000-30,000 yen (around 265.00 USD). Keep that baby, but still upgrade.

Just my two cents worth.

Contax rebates have always been available to both USA and Canadian buyers in the past. Has this practice changed? I know that there is no Canadian distributor for Contax now (per Leica) but it would be a shame for Contax to forget it's Canadian consumers

Hi Folks

For me, most of the last 100 mails in this forum has the quality of spam. Is there realy nothing to discuss but prices and rebats? Good things have their price. I'am not rich and have to carefully spend my money. But if I like something - like the G system - I'm ready to pay for it's price.

What about all that tests. Everbody seems to be a tester. Are there any photographers? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I bought my G2 System to take fine pictures and not for testing. I know I'm the weakest point in my equippement - a good feeling.

Hi,
Just want to let everyone know that unlike Hans I find all the info. sent very usefull, I am a college student and have to watch the cash flow especially when dealing with Contax/Zeiss.

Hans not to be rude but if you want a Contax page with pictures try www.contaxg.com lots of photographers on there including myself.

Best of luck,
Colin

Contax always has rebate. This practic has not been changed. Cannon, Nikon, Hasselblad, Mamiya do the same thing through out the year.

Some rebates are better than the other. Now the N17-35 had $250 rebate. When I bought mine in this summer, Contax offered $500 rebate for the same lens.

However, with the Contax days going on now, almost all Contax gears get additional 10% off, plus the rebates. Really the best deal of the year especially with the double rebate deals.
