... why has it seen such a recent decline in participation? I thought this was a good place to camp after drp announcement to close.

What are your thoughts?

One thing I've noticed...

...many Images are taking longer to load when I browse the sub-forums. I'm on a fiber optic network which is normally pretty fast, so I'm not sure what's going on here. I view on a 4k Pantone verified laptop and don't expect images on a forum to look "perfect." But I also don't have patience for the time some of these apparently large megapixel file multi images that are loaded take, even over a relatively fast connection. ????

Maybe a "High Quality" gallery link where those who want to view total best quality can offer their images suitable for viewing on large monitors? ... I dunno...

while DPR's heart still beats, there is still activity there... the hyenas aren't picking at those bones just yet...
I seem to spend my time split between here and there. But the atmosephere here is generally better. Not that the atmosphere in the Pentax section of DPR was ever bad anyway.

Yes, me too, spending time between here and DPR. Not so for other DPR offshoot forums, only DPRF so far even though I’ve joined total 4 forums.

The best thing you can do is to invite all users of your preferred dpreview forum (i.e. Pentax) to join here now. Then you can save a lot of time and post only here.

I do not believe that the forums of dpreview will be kept alive in the long run. Best case they will be archived.

The minimum you can do is to put a link in your dpreview signature that everybody can find you here at dprforum.com

Make sure the link in your signatur is clickable. People are lazy and just want to click on something to find a place.

Overall, you are the forum. If you do not post here, if you do not tell others that DPRF is the place to be, nothing will change. It is up to you to help to grow this community as big as you want to.

I posted few photographs on dpr - the volume I have posted here is insane by comparison. Posting photographic art images on dpr was not welcomed as there is a certain obsession on that forum for traditionally correct detailed images of impressive perfection.

The dpr forum has been a place for gearhead discussions that have not really emerged on this forum. Some of those that posted impressive technical research on the Adapted Lens Talk forum of dpr have done so on this site but their work whilst excellent is not the stuff for debate but at least it becomes an archive for those that might search by Google for information - no doubt this archival material will accumulate. But it would be nice for anyone making such substantial efforts to get some likes or sensible comments on what they have produced - none of this stuff should exist on a solitary island without appreciation.

Further more despite our dislike of out and out trolling some robust social interchange made dpr more lively - and moderation more difficult. It is sometimes hard to actually see the difference between lively social banter that attracts and out and out malignancy that destroys.

But this site does need some controversial but polite debates related to gear to emulate the buzz that dpr offers.

This can only come from participating as Dirk has rightly observed.

Meanwhile the site is perhaps being skewed more towards an imaging site with plenty of likes and not a lot of constructive words.

But we need not rush into triviality simply to get the runs on the board - I am sure that the site is progressing well and what we choose to post is what will ultimately define it.

I think the reality is that DPR is still alive, kicking and pretty active. Until - and unless - DPR finally closes its doors, I don't think we will see any great migration of posters/users over to this forum.

That isn't a criticism of this forum in any way. Just my appreciation of the situation as it is.

Although I agree to this in general, I do think that it is too easy to settle on this. I strongly believe, that if each member of DPRF would use signatures with links in it, that this would bring significant more users to us - also during the time DPR is still open. It is called marketing. :)

Additionally, each member of DPRF should think about whether it is worth it to post at dpreview at all. Would it not make more sense to do the same posting here instead of at DPreview? You waste your time on something which will get deleted sooner or later anyway at DPReview.

I too have been posting more on DPR recently than here as it still seems to be alive. I just prefer the overall format on the original forum; I guess I’m more accustomed to it after many years of posting there. And, the sub forums I visit (Nikon and Nature & Wildlife) have always been pretty civil.
