This forum had a great start

Yes the site is still feeling its way and the activity is still mirroring the intrests of those that are actually visiting it. There was never going to be an instant replicaton of what dpr was offering and I doubt that that ever will happen. More likely the site will develop an aura of its own. But these are still early days and I would not see that there is any reason to worry about progress.

The main issue as far as I am concerned is a huge number of likes and not nearly as much chat. But I am aware that others may not have the time to do a lot of chatting so we all must do whatever they can reasonably manage. Whilst a like is a useful mark of 'seen and appreciated' it is not really an invitation to a conversation.
Sorry mate... I just added another like ;)

Think a lot has to do with weather. It is summer time in the US. People spend more time outside and less time on "specialized" social media. I've noticed this trend on lots of forums. Including many non photographic ones.
Thanks,
barondla

I think that's true. Right now I'm spending more time with my kayak than with my camera or my computer.

Earlier in this topic a reply talked about herding cats... For me, that's not what continues to make me look at the old forum. It's that if I ask a question, I'll get responses. They may not be GOOD responses, but something will happen. In here, the Sony area is VERY quiet. And for people with Alpha 1s, it's even quieter.

That is of course a conundrum with all new forums. All members have to be active here, otherwise nothing changes.

If everybody is only waiting for others to do something, nothing will happen. You can not change something without changing something.

We do not have a 25 year history. Therefore the new members here have to help now to make it a similar active place in the future.

... why has it seen such a recent decline in participation? I thought this was a good place to camp after drp announcement to close.

What are your thoughts?
Maybe it's not a decline, but a lull (for whatever reason; school's out, etc.)? I'm still on DPPreview but haven't posted on it since joining here. I found a lot of nice friends there (and a few that I wish had migrated too), but I sometimes felt a little ill at ease about starting or engaging in conversations/light banter. It seemed very businesslike compared to our new home, and although I can pull off serious, I like this much better! And I'll be honest, as this is a REAL pet-peeve of mine: I don't ask for help unless I'm really stuck on something, and on the two occasions I had to resort to the old forum for a tech question, I was met with 'read your manual'. Then, why did you even bother to respond if that's the go-to answer? Unless it's 'press the red button', don't be so curt. Also, I always selected 'constructive criticism' and although I've appreciated the feedback I've gotten, I've seen them really RIP into some people unnecessarily. Still a member there but content here. :z02-feedtroll:

I think all forums go a tad slow during the summer months as people are more likely to be out and about doing other stuff - but as above its cause and effect, if people don't post then people can't answer

I suffer badly from imposter syndrome & rarely post any of my work as I don't feel its good enough

I can only speak for myself but here it is.

This is just a photo forum. Nobody is submitting work for publication or the National Archives.

I enjoy and appreciate really well done images, say BIF, or seascapes with amazing waves and clouds, magnificent waterfalls at locations I'll never get to -- all those, But I also enjoy viewing work from members whose names I recognize from discussions over time -- and I equally appreciate viewing what they have done over the years and what they are doing now. In other words, all photography.

To me, it has nothing to do with "good enough." I'm much more interested in what people find interesting to shoot, and how they go about doing it.
