This forum had a great start

I had to use so many different computer OSs in my early years of computing
My earliest (none school interaction) was a VAX where you could exit this VAX to a FORTH command language implementation.

I had experience broadly with DOS Based OS (Apple DOS, MS-DOS, DR-DOS), Classic Mac OS, Windows (30 plus years since 1988/89), Current Mac OS is Unix based. Quarterdeck, that one didn't last. I'd mostly used the Quarterdeck QEMM Product. DOS Shell or DOS overlays. I liked Central Point Software's PC Tools, I also used Norton Commander.

Haha! I remember that.

I remember the first IBM PS/2 that I worked on. It has a 20MB hard drive. The salesperson said we'd never fill it up! These days the apps on my iPhone are over 200MB in size and download in seconds over 5G.

I find the forum software here at DPRForum.com and L-Mount-Forum.com so much better than DPR.

My routine is to use the notification bell at the top to go to new responses to my posts (same as the flag at DPR). Then I use the 'What's new' link to see what else interesting has been posted in the forums. And one shortcut that I use is a browser bookmark to show my watched forums.

I was a bit lazy at DPR in terms of posting, i.e. reading more than I posted. I am trying to make an effort here to post more, i.e. photos in the Transportation sub-forum which is great because I had no place to do this at DPR other than the Landscape forum. MFT was all birds which just aren't my thing.

I find this software a bit "clunky" to use compared to DPR, but I like the direction and "vibe" that Dirk and team are taking DPRF. And even as a non computer guy I can find where I want to go here.

DPR (no F) has what the marketing people term as "momentum." Years of people with usage, an impressive population of users and lurkers. A fair percentage of those folks (meaning... a lot) aren't going to move until they have to. So we wait for that to happen, ..... or not.

Meanwhile, for my own personal interest as a long time photographer, and having spent a 35+ year career in the industry, I don't have any particular interest in "Landscape" or "Portaits and People" or "Nature and Wildlife" or "Documentary," "Sports action," "Macro" "BIF" "B/W" or whatever.... Nor do I care whether an image is shot with a Canon, Nikon, Sony, or all those others. ... BUT that's the categories we get, (because of DPR I suppose.)

Too fractured.

Might there be one for "Here's what I shot today" and I'd just like to post it and also to see what you guys did today or this week.... which could be shot with any of those cameras, and could be any of those subjects.

Just a suggestion. And maybe something that could only work with lesser volumes. But I find this missing from the other forum choices -- as well as this one and often wonder why.

My earliest was an IBM 1400 and a Varian 620/i. An IBM PC with 16KB and no HD came along over 10 years later. :(

For me, I just don’t think to come here, truth be told.

Yes, I think that is a common problem that many users have with new sites until it becomes a morning routine.

We probably will address this with a more regular newsletter.

I figure if I want to post something for the whole group I'll use the DPRF Cafe. It's like the local waterhole for the forum.
