I had the Ultron 35/1.5 when I had a Bessa R and then with a= Bessa R2. Fantastic lens. As good as the Leica? Probably not but= it isn't $1000 'less good' and that is about the savings. Michael

Bryan;

If you're considering a Voigtlander product, I'd say go for it. While I can't say I've used a Voigtlander lens yet, I do own several Voigtlander products (the M-mount T body, T winder, several excellent finders) & they work wonderfully with my Leica gear.

As for their lenses, I'm ordering the new Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 Nokton soon. This high speed lens is enough to get me back into the 35mm focal length. As someone said on another forum, it's a "35mm focal length Noctilux". Even better, the price is reasonable, when compared to a new 35mm Summilux ASPH Leica lens.

I had almost forgotten why I sold my M6 until the other day when in a camera shop I 'played' with an excellent ex&le for sale second-hand.

Those imprecise diodes. Leica advised me the ISO Standard is 1/6 of a stop accuracy. The M6 could be out by a full stop and the diodes would not alter.

Use of the M6 diodes are not compulsory and my be ignored by the photographer (after you get used to the damn things being there in the first place.) For 90% of the time I use my M5 and M7 the same as I do the M3. The old fashion way with a hand held light meter. I find it a faster way of working (in most general situations) than taking the meter reading from inside the camera.

Question: If you had an M3 shutter speed dial put on the MP will a Leica meter MR fit? For those thinking (“what is this nut on about?â€) this is not as strange a question as it first may appear. IMVHO there are many advantages to the Leica Meter set up over TTL in certain shooting situations.

It may also be the perfect answer for those who complain about the small traditional dial which moves in the ‘wrong’ direction. With the Leica Meter, you get a big dial which moves in the correct direction relative to the match needle readout.

Hi Craig,

I was really just making a point about the M6 and its metering system which has been continued in the TTL and the MP. With my M2 I use a hand held meter, but am particularly fond of using the inbuilt meter in the M5 which is most accurate and precise. I think it depends on the use to which the camera is being put.

On my M3 I have replaced the MR meter with the Voigtländer VC and have been very pleased. You might consider that an option for your MP particlarly as it does not connect with the shutter speed dial.

Best wishes,

Justin

> [Hi Justin

I just had my old M3 DS completely CLA, black painted, with the winder head replaced etc - and it is now a gleaming gloriously retrofitted M3 - ready to take on the world again.

Like yourself I also intend to fit the VC meter on top of it.

Can you please advise if the VC meter reads accurately for ASA50 and ASA160

Thanks and regards

Hello Joseph,

The VC meter is accurate at all speeds in my experience and when used alongside an R7 gives identical readings. However unlike the M meters it is not linked to the shutter speed dial and why it is best used at the designated speeds and fine adjustment done with the aperture.

I know Chris had one on order, ask him if it has arrived and can you have a look at it.

Congratulations on the M3. Must look stunning.

Sincerely,

Justin

> [Hi Justin

Thanks for your reply and confirmation of the VC meter - I actually bought it just as it was launched and directly from Japan - Chris bought one after looking at mine - I just wanted confirmation for an experienced user like yourself

The revitalized M3 is indeed stunning and gorgeous - I also had the viewfinder resilvered with the DOF pointers included - yes it is now a treasured item

Will test my VC meter and revert with the results

Best regards

Thanks! - marc

> [Hi Marc

There are two well known parties in Japan that does this specialised job. I had mine done through the good recommendation of Dr Joseph Yao of Hongkong.
