Where has everyone Gone

As a past user I waited for a while before signing and paying up. Well here we are near the end of August with few or sometimes no posts for up to five days. Did the fee kill it? Not sure, Kyocera more than likely will though, we shall see next month at Photokina.

Contax as we know and love it lives or dies at Photokina based on the announcement of a new ND, or lack thereof ... my humble and hopefully wrong opinion.

I guess a real and final death is preferable to Contax stumbling around like a zombie out of the "Night of the Living Dead" and keeping false hopes alive. What is Contax waiting for? Come clean and tell people what is coming at Photokina. I think Contax owes that to loyal users after what we have been through over the past several years with the N and ND cameras. Quit stringing us along.

Sadly, one should not have high hope for Contax in Photokina. The higher the expectation, the higher the disappointment. I hope I am wrong but I am speaking from my personal frustration. For the time being, I feel lucky though I have a ND to keep me alive in the digital world.

I am still hanging around, but only by a thread! I have sold all my Contax and Zeiss equipment except for the 85mm/1.4 which, I have to confess, I am not even using. I switched over to Canon 6 months ago because that's what my head wants me to do, although my heart is still with Contax/Zeiss!

I guess I am a sentimental fool ... but I am not an idiot! Waiting for a new DSLR from Contax is like waiting for a $1,500 full-frame digital camera to happen!

BTW I am selling my 10D to get the new 20D.

hey, i'm new and here... a little disapointed in the levels of use, here and on the gallery. but still, seems and excellent idea, i hope it picks back up.

Hello Antony,
I think it's likely to pick again up when the evenings draw in and when it's winter. It's worth sticking around
Best wishes,
John

Hello fellow Contax fans,
I too have just registered. I recently purchased a RX2 with 50mm f1.4 lens from Ffordes, probably the best dealer website in the UK.
This is my first Contax camera, having admired CZ lenses for many years.
I must admit I felt a bit uneasy after buying this camera, according to "Which Camera" magazine it is a more basic camera than the RX. I now see what they mean looking at the spec.My experience has always been that when a new model comes out it is an upgrade of it's predecesor. Is this a retrograde step?.
I am more than happy with this outfit, the variations are not a problem, but, I wonder what other users think. Any comments?.
Best wishes,
Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

Firstly may I congratulate you on the purchase of a wonderful camera - and welcome to the club!!

Personally, I wouldn't get too hung up on the "Which Camera" report. For a more in depth report, try and locate a copy of the Amateur Photographer report - this would be about 18 months ago and their report was very favourable.

There are differences between the two models - in particular the focus & depth of field indicator. If you browse this site you will see a lot of postings on this issue - but on the whole it comes down to personal preference.

I have the RX only because I could not afford the RX2. If I could "upgrade" I probably would - and as I don't use the indicator I don't think I will be missing it much.

Hope you come to love your outfit - becasue it really is in a class of its own!!

Happy snapping,
Rgds, Saras

Hi Gordon,
To me the RX2 is not a retrograde step. I have the RX and seldom use the focus assist as I find it quite off putting haveing to look at the display.

All the best with it.

Paul
