Why Canon at all

Why Canon? It's the glass my son, the glass...and the price I recently bought a kit for a friend. A 24 f2.8, a 50, f1.4, a 85 f1.8, a 135 f2, and a 200 f2.8. we added that to a tank. Bag full of some of the best glass in the world & a 90 for less then $1200...nothing else can touch that

If your not interested in putting some stress on your back buy a stylus epic. When I want to keep it light and dont care about pic quality, i use my 28-200 sigma zoom. When I want to keep it pretty light, I bring my 24mm, 50mm and my 70-200L 2.8 and 2x ext. Canon has great glass with the exception of thier small cheap zooms. If you want to take crisp images, you cant whine about how much your glass weighs, because you need good glass and a good tripod. I recommend the YMCA for a good fitness course ;)

I need help! I have a Canon Rebel G camera that everytime I take a picture it shuts off. Then you have to turn it back on to take another picture. Does anyone have any ideas of why this is happening and will it cost alot to fix? Thanks

I once(up to F3HP)was a fanatic Nikon user
Then came F1N/T90/EOS1+N and now D10
need I say more?

I switched from Pentax MX to EOS 650 when it came out about 15 years ago. I like the idea the auto focus motor is build into each lens. At that time, both Nikon and Minolta has motor build into the body. 15 years later, my EOS650 shutter broke down first time last month. Out of 36 frames, only one got exposed. It's time for replacement. Since I never own a Nikon, I'm going to switch to Nikon gear.

Why Canon ?
The L lenses !!! to make a long story short.

The long one;
Using Nikon for 20 years and discovered the L lenses made me "defect" to Canon.
Miss the Matrix metering from Nikon and the layout of the bodies from Nikon.
Canon is more "press a button and look at the lcd and see what happens...."

Canon slides r sometimes a bit too dark if U trust the Canon matrix metering, so I spend more film using Canon. I also miss of course the flash metering from Nikon.
But Canon L lenses has more punch in the colours and contrast or a little bit sharper on telelenses.
The Nikon AFS 17-35 F2.8 used to be superior. But now with the newer Canon ones I dont know. The 17-40 F4L is so good.
If I could have a Nikon body with a Canon L lense I would be in heaven. I guess if I started in first place with Canon I would not have that Nikon body miss thing.
Of course one more thing Canon has a lot more Usm lenses than Nikon. Not even the very nice Nikkor 85mmF1.4 has Usm. And if we start to look at digital slr.....Canon has the lead in both consumer and pro bodies.....
Maybe not the the best considered digital P&s out there but I really like the Coolpix 4500 from Nikon

Gunnar,
There are plus / minus points if we want to compare Nikon & Canon.

afaik, Lenses are the most important thing for many proffesional photographers to switch to Canon. Even we miss some good point of Nikon which are not available in Canon such big viewfinder, Matrix metering.

Talking about digital, Canon takes the lead. Many of my Nikonian friends are moved to Canon and they are very happy with the stunning results from Canon D-SLR.

I choose Canon for many of the same reasons as listed above, but maily for the image quality. How ever I would never choose canon again.
Here is my story

I bought my G2 in February, This year, In July it stopped working with a "Lens error". The lens wouldn’t retract, and I couldn’t use the camera at all.
I sent it to the service and the replaced the optical unit.
Upon receiving it back from Canon, it produced an error E24 and wouldn’t work.
As this was a total different error I can only assume it very unlucky or canon broke it, when they fixed the optics. I sent it back, and they replaced the DC/DC converter, and sent it back to me.
Upon receiving, it would turn on, but as soon as I opened the LCD view finder, the error E24 appeared and it turned of again. I can only assume they didn’t repair or test it.

I’ve been without my camera for more than 2 months now, and I wanted to know if anyone has had similar bad experiences.

Basically my advice would be to steer clear of Canon products, based on the poor quality of their service centre.

I spoke extensively to their customer support, and they were very apologetic, but all they can do is insist I send the camera back for a 3rd repair.
