Challenges…

Maybe now we can fix a lot of the issues we had in the DPReview challenges!!! Could we select a panel of judges, and forget worrying about being anonymous?

That's a very good idea. It stops all the marking down votes. Excellent!

Danny.

I hosted challenges on DPReview and I would love to host again! :giggle:
Hello my Dear Friend, and fellow Host!! So good to see you here!! Please share your ideas on how we could make the challenges better. Maybe we can craft up a format which Dirk, and company, can implement. PentUp is also on this thread, so if Dirk can give us the boundaries that we must work with, I'm sure we can all come up with a workable format. It is probably a good idea for us to hash this out ASAP so that when he is ready to roll out a Challenge Forum, we have our rules and processes in place. I hope we can get cjf2 involved also!!!

Realistically I don't think finding a panel of judges is viable at the moment, the forum being young, maybe just do it as Dirk says while using the best tools at hand for now. I've seen photo challenges go ammicably where the host is the only judge, the winner becomes the host and judge for the next round. Just a thought. Can't hurt for now.

My 2 cents:
  • Voters (except maybe the challenge host) should not have access to exif information. The only explanation I have for some of the weird voting histograms I see on DPR, is that some voters will downvote images made with a platform they don't like. Also, exif data may allow to guess who made the image. Only the image is to be judged, not the equipment or author. (Of course exif can be available when the challenge has ended.)
  • If anyone is allowed to vote, then the host's votes should get a higher weight, after all they know best what is expected for the challenge.

@all

I might have found a solution for challenges. I will install later today a payed addon for this. It will not be perfect, but I checked another big site which is using this plugin for years now very successfil and the community loves it.

Simple to use. But again: NOT exactly how your are used to it at dpreview. This does not mean that it is not good. It is just differnt. I only want to manage the expectations.

If everything works fine and I made the right settings, we could start with the first challenge this Eastern!

Ooh, exciting! (y)

update.

I installed that plugin. This runs on another big site very successful for years.

We have now to test this and I try to figure out how to make the settings.

Go ahead and play around. Upload photos. Per posting only one photo. Do give likes, but not to all images, so we see how this will be displayed.

I have to leave now...
