Contaxbs Alphabet Game

So, despite the fact that he gave inaccurate information and "bizarre" answers...

Yes, exactly the kind of a person that would give tech support fits and management headaches. He was probably a marketing type. Joy. Since he was operating outside of a company controlled forum his answers couldn't be edited or deleted, he was defensive and you say his lack of objectivity (he worked for the company, why the heck do you think he would be OBJECTIVE) invalidated many of his responses...

You make my point for me.

>>I don't know the situation in the rest of the globe, but in the States Contax has significantly reduced their presence.<<

In Canada they closed up shop!!, Jeff

Jeff, Yes, they closed up shop.....But they've re-opened!!!(at least appointed a Distributor)
I actually got through to a live person at Contax USA last Wednesday who gave me this info. However the name/product "CONTAX" doesn't yet appear on the distributor's website. One would think that if one became a 'national' distributor for a prestige line of equipment, one would update their website PDQ!!! Maybe such appontment doesn't bode well, yet again(?)

Dana, although I share some of the frustrations you have, we see it not that negative.

Just wait and see. Not all companies are that shy. As some of you might remember, we hat already one successful statement/communication in this forum with a Kyocera representatitive.

In every company, there are people who are more costumer oriented and people who are less costumer oriented. The trick is to get to know the right people within the company.

And othter companies seem to be much more interested in talking to its costumers, than Kyocera currently is. Also on independent forums like ours. So wait and see what happens at this place in the future

>Jim: If you cannot find Contax in NZ - why don't you have a look at the Leica R system.

The R - system will in the near future even give you the option of shooting film or digital - on the same camera!

And if you're used to the quality Leica M lenses give, you are likely to be dissapointed with the likes of Nikon. You will never have the details in the shadow areas, nor the color saturation and contrast of Leica/Contax/Zeiss.

>The Japaneese are renown for the ability to copy good basic design and remarket it as new ideas. The Briish m/cylce and car industries can testify to that. The Contax problem is easily solved. The R&D people at Kyocera simply by a Canon EOS strip it down copy it, put it in a titanium boy and sell it as a Contax with a Carl Zeiss lupmped on the front. Problem solved, reliable camera with the best lenses in the world and a good brand name. And no i am not joking.

Dana,
I don't see why open discussion between the company and its hardcore supporters would do anything but good for both parties. The company doesn't have to give away any industrial secrets but it could show willing and respond to users' experiences to help improve its products.
Something like "the customer is always right" or at least more realistically "customer service".
I am probably missing something but it seems to me that it just requires a bit of effort and commitment and honesty on the part of the company.
Regards,
John

Mark,
What a horrifying vision. I know the saying "The buck stops here" but really. The boss man can never sleep! Presumably he has advisors but how can they ever get anything done.

Hi Guys,

I agree with the sentiment that Contax/Kyocera should have a more open line of discusion with their customers. However, the reality can be a lot different.

I work for a computer games company that have a lot of forums up and running (both ones we maintain and independant ones). Sometimes they have valuable feedback on them - but quite often, they are spiteful rants. I am not saying this because I have a rose-tinted view of my own company - I genuinely don't believe my company has been able to gain much from these forums - although they do engender a feeling of loyalty from our consumers.

The other thing I will say, is when some of the feedback is critical and justified it can deflate you and you have to be careful you don't end up with a siege mentality. So, just think of those poor people at Contax & Kyocera reading these forums - I say to them we still love you - but please can we have a new DSLR!! :)))

Have a Good Weekend!!

Cheers, Saras
