Contax RX

Basically it looks like Kyocera is getting rid of the manual focus line except for the Aria. I guess it will focus only on the AF line and the G series. Does this seem correct?

I have the RX and the N1 and am thinking of getting rid of the N1. If I go digital, it won't be with Contax until the proposed digital T3 looks really great.

I like the N 24-85 but like the handling of the RX a lot better and I can use my Scheider 28 PC lens with it.
 
Anyone had film-advance problems with the RX? I've had my RX for 5 yrs. and it's suddenly struggling to rewind and advance film. When I depress the shutter with no film in the camera, but with the back open, I see the roller working. But with film in the camera, I can't get past the third exposure. Just wasted about 10 exposures of expensive ISO 25 ortho film. Alternative explanation is there's something wrong with the two rolls of ortho film I loaded. Seems unlikely.

At Photokina there will be a Contax RX replacement presented. The new RX will be available most likely in November in the shops.

Are there any indications about what changes will be made to the RX? Will it simply be an upgrade to the electronics or are more substantial changes expected. I, for one, would like to see a weight and size reduction without any changes to the current feature set.

I got the same problem as you months ago when I got RX in a 2nd handed shop. Should go to repair centre and the Contax specialist will know how to fix it.

I scanned the RX broshure and uploaded it in the Scan/Download section on this site. I hope that is helping some of you who are in a buying decision, especially now at the photokina.

I've read in this and other disscussion forums that the RX is one of the best d&ed, quietest 35MM SLRs around, and has minimal shutter vibration. One person said they didn't have any problem even at 1/30th second. I have an Aria and RX and (for my purposes)the major reason I might possibly add an RTS III is the mirror lock up. The RX does indeed possess a quiet shutter. I haven't yet got around to shooting test pictures. The RX would be used for outdoor work (landscapes, running water, etc). Does anyone have any experience with the RX at 1/30 to 2 second exposures or have any thoughts on whether I might be able to get away without a mirror lock up? Thanks.
 
I have had 2 RXs - the first underexposed slightly, the second by about 1 f stop. A good idea to do some testing and change the film speed to get an exposure you like. My RTSIII does not underexpose at all - very different metering than either of my RX bodies.
 
All camera meters use different systems to meter, you can certainly adjust the exposure compensation dial if you are getting consistent under exposure. Remember, if you are pointing your camera at anything other than 18% gray, it is not going to be absolutely right on. For perfect exposures, without bracketing, use an incident meter, or the Contax G2 which meters an 18% gray off the shutter curtain, and the only camera meter I have ever encountered that matches an incident meter tack on about 95% of the time. Also, the RX has the best d&ened shutter of any SLR, I shoot the thing down to an 1/8 or 1/4 second at times to keep shooting provia 100, which I rate at asa 80, rather than switch to a faster film. I read in one post here that the RX is being dropped, too bad, for my money, it is the best SLR ever produced.
