Two More Bodies Will Be Announced in 2023

That is way too much IMHO. Who can afford that? How many bodies they hope to sell?

I mean, I'm still quite happy with my original Z6, though I want Nikon to succeed and so I find these product releases fascinating. I've also been really happy to read about the 85mm f/1.2, because it's clearly a win for Nikon, but the 1.8 is fine for me.

As for affordability, I dunno ... the Z9 is $5500 and apparently has had robust sales.

The D500 retailed for $1600 and - at least until possibly June 10th - is still the best DX camera ever produced.

If the replacement is north of $4K, I'll just go grab another lightly used D500 body.
Why do you think it is going to be aDX body?

A quick search on B&H shows that the most expensive APS-C mirrorless is currently the Fuji X-H2S, at $2,499 USD (body only) with the following key specs:

  • 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans Stacked BSI Sensor
  • 4K 120p, 6.2K 30p, FHD 240p 10-Bit Video
  • Internal ProRes 422 HQ and F-Log 2
  • 7-Stop In-Body Image Stabilization
  • 5.76m-Dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder
  • 3" 1.62m-Dot Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD
  • 40 fps E. Shutter, 15 fps Mech. Shutter
  • 425-Pt. Hybrid AF, AI Subject Detection
  • ProRes & Blackmagic RAW via HDMI
  • CFexpress Type B & SD UHS-II Card Slots
Even factoring in a premium for more of a pro-type body ( to match or exceed what the D500 represent in the DSLR world), if and when Nikon comes up with a mirrorless equivalent they better not price it at more than $3,000. And that would be already streching it, are not mirrorless simpler and easier to build after all?
In my dreams I see a D500 mirrorless replacement (if there is ever going to be one) being priced between $2,000 and $2,500 USD, but I am afraid this is not going to happen.

Good news that new bodies are coming. It will bring down prices of Z7II and I'll buy one to replace my Z5. Nothing wrong with the Z5...lovely camera...but the Z7II will be nicer for my landscape photography.

Z7II bodies are already down $400 - from $2996 to $2596.

Do you think they’ll come down lower?

I probably will look for a used body with low mileage. Depends on the new bodies...if one of them will be also really suitable for landscape photography hopefully many people will sell their Z7II.

Good point, same for the Z6II. Considering that the D500 sold at the same price as the "entry level" D750 Full Frame, transposing that to the mirrorless line (and not counting the Z5, that can be considered a 1st generation mirrorless) it is not unreasonable to think/dream that an hypothetical pro-body APS-C could be priced as the Z6II, around $1,700.

That depends on how long you are willing to wait and whether you are willing to buy second hand to make it even cheaper. I almost bought my old Nikon D800 back, because I could have had one for 400 Euro with less than 10.000 actuations.
