Today with your Pentax

Hi guys. I actually thought the Pentax interview was very upbeat and positive, and made tons of sense. Everything except for their baffling inability to communicate with the English speaking world despite wanting to. Pentax Forums is such a well known site in the Pentaxian world, and I think the Pentax management has even had interactions with Adam or someone else from Pentax Forums in the past, surely they could use a translator and communicate with users there if they honestly wanted to. I found that line of thought confusing despite lots of other very good news. It seems they are aware of demand for more stuff and are working to bring it forth, including an updated full frame camera. But honestly, even if that never happens, my babies have enough life left in them to probably outlast me, so I'll be OK.

Are any of you interested in their film project? Are any of you interested in film? I have a couple of film units that I have hardly used in a couple of years and a mini stockpile of color negative film. I thinking I'm going to break out some film, but I need to order C41 chemicals and find time and space to develop the film, then I lose interest. I went on a caffenol kick a few years ago while living in Kansas City, and that was quite fun. It's hard to screw up developing BW film.

Onward with the day's photos. I tell myself to take as few photos as possible. Then today, I took 21. That's 19 more than I needed. Here's today's catch.

I still have a working Canon F1 body and Canon lenses 28mm thru 200mm and a Takumar 400mm with an FD mount. So I'm tempted at times go back to film....

....but not color. Clearly only my opinion here, but modern digital cameras combined with good editing software just make such a difference in what you can do with color images that I don't see the reason for the cost and time required for color neg or chrome.

B/W on the other hand is less expensive, more forgiving regards processing, and works for the kinds of pictures I like to take. I prefer the rougher 1960s - 1970s look of 35mm B/W which can be achieved fairly well with b/w film converted to digital and edited. Note, I'm not trying to emulate Adams or Weston type large format images. I'm more like a Robert Frank, Jim Marshall, HCB kind of shooter for b/w. (but still a bit down, my good photo friends say quite a bit down, on the talent) :ROFLMAO:

Interesting RBIV.

Film is going to come back big time as soon as princess Kate Middleton ie Catherine, Princess of Wales wonders what the hell that 67 does when she sees Harry Potter again.

Regards the interview it is kind ok but really my own imagination of what is happening is pretty much still seems about right.

Regards

Nikon have just released Z8 and it is still . . still after all these yrs . . . still only 46 megapixels.
Pentax are juggling a lot of balls in the air when they make a release to optimize its strengths to the market. They have to squeeze every ounce of profit from the release for a long long time before the next release. This means it has to be quite mature unless it is a K1 iii with just very very minor updates from a simple circuit improvement or something that is very very cheap for them to do. Ideally Ricoh want to put something special into it and this really means an upgraded sensor usually as well as other things. It is getting harder and harder to convince people to upgrade so this circus of a new release is very difficult these days. With Nikon still only using 46 megapixels I believe it means that the K1 iii is being delayed and delayed because the 46 megapixel sensor is still worth something ie over priced really and 60 megapixel is worth even more in terms of price that you have to pay Sony. We have no idea how prices are arrived at. There could be all manner of wheeling and dealing going on with sensors. The days when Pentax could release a K5 at the very same time as a Nikon D7000 seem to have passed but we have no idea what is happening really. Mirrorless has meant Nikon are happy to sell 46 megapixels still to its customers. This is like over a decade after nikon first released the D800 36MP camera which is crazy. Dynamic range has crept up slightly and 60 did seem good deal back when it 1st arrived to the tech nerds. It is just so slow these days regards the markets to new sensors. The 645Z is dead people will tell you and yet there has been just one sensor upgrade since that camera and Fuji are still selling the exact same sensor from 645Z in a new camera even today though i suspect sales have slowed. Yes everyone can guess the hell out of this including me.
Expecting 60 megapixels in a K1 should have been happening round about now but mirrorless and the pandemic around the world and part shortages. There are too many things that mean I suspect that it may be a while before we see a new K1 especially if Ricoh are holding out for 60 megapixels. Sony have only just themselves released A7R5 really last year was it and they are still on 60 megapixels. When Sony have an 80 megapixel sensor then there is a far better chance that the old by then 45 or 60 megapixel will be the right price for Ricoh to make a decent enough profit otherwise their profit margin is too small perhaps.
Moaning about the delay is stupid. It is what it is. It cannot be helped. Even in the heydays of the Nikon D300 sales you can see nikon wildlife shooters had to wait an eternity for a Nikon D300 upgrade. An eternity even though there was massive advancements in low noise at high iso and Nikon could have sold literally 100s of thousands of such a camera. Canon had 21 megapixels a long long time ago. Get real people. It could be ages and I can wait as long as it takes because 36 megapixels is plenty plenty for me personally. I will wait.

Nice. Your assistant with the funny name will lead you places... Just keep that big K1 in hand! :)

Here's an image I've added to my "Dry Grass" collection. Not sure I should keep it in the collection or not. Pretty busy, but I like the contrast of the golden grass with the green whatever it is growing next to it.

I want to say that green plant in the foreground is a yucca, and Google image search is returning mostly yuccas, so maybe that's really what it is. At any rate, I like your image and I think you should keep it.

I took the cameras to the town square today, but was also relegated to pack mule status and couldn't be very spontaneous with the camera. So, I have what amounts to a pair of safeties today. Sorry.
